Show T-birds host Track invitational For the first time this season Southern Utah State's track team will be at home Saturday for competition com-petition as the T-Birds host teams from Mesa, Snow, Dixie, and College of Eastern Utah for the T-Bird Invitational. Events get underway at 11 a.m. in T-Bird Stadium beginning with the steeple chase. Coach Steve Lunt is hoping for good weather and to get his injured people back on the track. Last week the T-Birds placed third in the six-team Mesa Invitational. SU scored 96 points to finish behind Colorado Mines (159) and Western State (137). Mesa finished fourth with 66, while Colorado College had 46 and Metro State 16. Manuel Deason led the way for the T-Birds as he was a double winner, capturing cap-turing the 220 with a 22.6 and the 440 with a 51.1. He also helped two relay teams to victories. Jon Winstead ran his best race of the season as he clocked 9.8 on his way to the 100 yard dash championship. Winstead also helped in two relay victories. SUSC captured first in the 440 and mile relays. The 440 team of Herbert Robinson, Deason, Bruce Jensen and Winstead ran a 43.2, and the mile relay unit of Mark Rainey, Winstead, Gary Higgins and Deason won with a time of 3:28. Jensen also placed second in the javelin with a throw of 187-10 while newcomer John Rothlisberger cleared 13-8 in the pole vault for a second place. |
