Mini-courses proving popular at Parowan High School, offer students diversion What is the most exciting innovation at the Parowan High School? Mini-courses that's what. They run the gamut ga-mut from one-act plays and commercial art to metal fabrication fabri-cation and aeronautics. Held the last period of the day, they offer the opportunity for students to explore interests and abilities. They last only six weeks; then students register regis-ter for another. Many courses have proved so popular that students have requested they be continued or re-offered next six weeks. Such a class is needlepoint, where the students have learn-ed learn-ed not only the basic stitches, but also the art of designing their own needlepoint pieces. This class began again Jan. 10, and because of interest shown it is now open to any interested townspeople. There will be no charge except for materials used. Mrs. Lollin D. Orton is the instructor. As another result of these short courses, Mr, Turner has ' built a new set of scenery for the school stage. This will be seen on Jan. 19 when the play "The Lady's Not Fcr Burning" will be presented. And girls who are interested in a career as a beautician, have had the opportunity to test this interest in a Cos-motology Cos-motology class conducted by Mrs. Alta Dalton. A class for operators and producers in radio ra-dio and television has been conducted by Mr. James Benson. Ben-son. These students have put on video tape the accomlish-ments accomlish-ments that many other mini-courses mini-courses have produced and editorials ed-itorials and programs for our school radio station. Other classes which are being be-ing considered for the next six weeks are ceramics, creative cre-ative dance, architectural design, de-sign, chess, traveling assembly, assem-bly, physical fitness, plastics and woodwork. They will be in session daily from 2:45 to 3:40. |
