Able to move on the ground the visitors caught the T-Birds napping before the end of the first half and quarterback Ken Kinsey hit end Nelson Mun-sey Mun-sey for a 63 yard score and the Scotties went into the dressing room with a 19 to 7 lead. In the third period of play quarterback Miller was caught in his own end zone attemping to pass, giving the Hiram Scott team two more points on a safety and before the period per-iod ended the Scotts put together to-gether a 77 yard drive to score again. Tom Miller connected early in the fourth period on a pair of passes, the first to Jerry Spackman, CSU favorite receiver, re-ceiver, and then to Doug Berry, Ber-ry, taking the ball to the Sfntt'c 1wr v;ird line from whore Ricky Orr powered it over for a score early in the fourth period. Midway in the period the T-Birds T-Birds really got desperate jwhen Kimoto went back to !punt on a fourth and 11 situation sit-uation on the CSU 14 and instead in-stead threw to Berry out to the 40 yard line. Four plays later, however, the Scotts took over on the CSU 49 and used their power in the middle to drive for another score. That's the problem that College of Southern Utah Thunderbirds are facing and it turned into their downfall again this past week as a heavier and stronger team from Hiram Scott defeated them 33 to 14. The T-Birds generated two touchdown drives in the course of the game but defensively they were not able to hold the Scotties from Scoutts Bluff, Neb. It was obvious that the T-Birds T-Birds would not move on the ground and the statistics proved a point when the CSU crew were unable to rack up a single net yard from rushing. rush-ing. It is not that Coach Tom Kingsford doesn't have some good men on the line. Its just that, as one of the coaches pointed out, he hasn't enough of them. The T-Birds interior linemen line-men for the most part are an aggresive bunch, some of the best in the history of the school, but in competition with teams like Scotts Bluff and Adams State, these men are simply not able to go both offensively of-fensively and defensively and hold their own against men anywhere from 15 to 50 pounds heavier than they are. Pat Rippe, Paul Hortin, Pete Dimick, Don Olscn, Richard Barnett, Ron Glover plus others, all do fine jobs. I Linebacked Doug Wolter, John Pensis and defensive backs like Jerry Pitts and Reid Kimoto, also do a tremendous tre-mendous jobs, but in many cases are also called on to go both ways and it tells against a team like the Scot-ties. Scot-ties. ' CSU started off with a bang driving, following the opening open-ing kiekoff, for a score and taking a 7 to 0 lead. Then a case of fumbilitious hit the T-Birds, and the backfield men had trouble hanging on. The third fumble proved to be too much and the Scotties took the ball and drove for a score. Missing the point after, left the T-Birds still holding a 7 to 6 lead at the end of the first quarter of play.
