Show Cedar Little League Opens Season's Play Cedar City Little League got underway Tuesday evening with action in both the American and the National Leagues. The nine teams of the two leagues marched down Main Streeet Tuesday afternoon and on to the parks where the first action ac-tion of the season got underway for both organizations. In the American League Webster Web-ster Coal posted the first victory of the season with a 6 to 3 win over Milne Truck Line and in the National League it was Lions barely sliding by Elks by a score of 3 to 2. For Webster Ronnie Adams was on the mound and he controlled con-trolled the game with 12 strikeouts strike-outs and allowed only three hits. Three pitchers saw mound duty for Milne, including Stan Roberts, Brent Hunter and Dale Flanigan. They limited Webster to only two hits but gave up a total of 12 walks to allow the victory. Hunter for Milne homered in the second inning and Ronnie Adams doubled for the only extra ex-tra base blows of the game. Whit Slack, one of three pitchers pitch-ers to share mound duty for Lions Club, picked up the victory for his team over Elks. Mike Rice was starter. He left after two innings with a 0 to 0 score and Slack pitched the next two innings in-nings and left with a 3 to 1 lead. Tommy Torres finished up for the Lions. Brent Baumgartner suffered the loss. Lions had four hits in their winning effort, including in-cluding a double by Rice and Elks had three hits, including a double by Doug Watson. Lions scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning on two hits and a pair of walks. |
