Show Cedar Firemen Prepare For State-wide Convention If you are going to have a fire next week would be the ideal time if you're a resident of Cedar Ce-dar City. The reason Is that several hundred hun-dred firemen and their wives trom throughout the state will converge on Cedar City Thurs- day, Friday and Saturday, June 9, 10 and 11 for the annual Utah State Firemen's Association convention. con-vention. Not only will there be firemen in town but there will be equipment equip-ment suppliers on hand with latest innovations, materials and apparaus for fighting fires. The event should be a gala one with Wallace Osborne serving serv-ing as general chairman of the convention and Mrs. Craig Neptune Nep-tune assuming the same responsibilities respon-sibilities for the auxiliary organization or-ganization which hold forth in the same convention. LaMar Jewkes, president of the State Association, will preside over sessions of the convention and Governor Calvin Rampton, and State Senator Dixie Leav-itt Leav-itt of Cedar Ciity will address the bpening session on Thursday. Delegates to the convention will be officially welcomed to Cedar City by Mayor Loren Whet-ten. Whet-ten. Convention highlights for residents resi-dents of the area will include a parade to be staged on Cedar City Main Street Thursday, June 9, beginning at 6 p. m. Business houses, clubs, schools, neighborhoods and individuals of the area are invited to participate parti-cipate and to enter floats or marching groups in the event. The parade is a traditional event and always draws wide participation from the various visiting firemen's organizations. Another feature of the convention conven-tion will be the awarding of certificates cer-tificates for years of service in the various fire departments of the state. Craig Neptune, assistant fire chief, indicated that 22 ten-year ten-year certificates and several 25-year 25-year certificates will be ssued. Two 50-year pins will also be presented. A new award will also be introduced in-troduced for 40 years of service and pins and certificates will be presented to 109 firemen of the state in this category it was Indicated. |
