Show Burascanos to Sail Tor Italy For Two-Month Stay One of Cedar City's best known and respected senior citizens will leave for a trip to the land of his birth after an absence of nearly 47 years. This week Mr. and Mrs. Lucio Buranscano will travel to Italy for two months of visiting with friends and taking care of business matters. Mr. Burascano left his home in Santa Lucia Del Mela, Sicily in 1903 at the age of 19. He returned to Sicily for a short visit with his bride in 1913. Hr. Burascano has been a businessman bus-inessman and civic leader in Cedar Ce-dar City for nearly 37 years. He and his wife have Just recently sold their large curio shop in Cedar City. Mr. Burascano is a founder and charter member of the Cedar City Rotary Club which was organized in 1925 and Is one of the founders and charter members mem-bers of the Cedar City Elks lodge organized in 1929. He is also one of the oldest members of the Knights of Columbus in Salt Lake City and has been a member mem-ber of the Iron County Welfare Board for 24 years. . Mr. Burascano has long been an active supporter and booster for College of Southern Utah. Last fall he presented a check for $1000 to the college loan fund to help needy and deserving students. stu-dents. This week just prior to his departure to Italy lie pre- sented another check for $1000 to Dr. Royden C Braithwaite, dl-rectlor dl-rectlor of CSU. Dr. Braithwaite expressed the gratitude of the students and the staff for Mr. Buruscano's generosity. - "lit! matching funds from the federal government. Mr. Burascano has made nearly $20,00 In loan money mon-ey available," said Dr. Braithwaite. Braith-waite. "We are truly grateful for such support," he said, i Mr. Burascano plans to visit a number of Rotary clubs In Messina Mes-sina and other large population centers while in Sicily. He will also settle a -family estate while In that country. Proceeds from the estate may be turned into a fund of some sort to provide scholarships to College of Southern South-ern Utah for some deserving Italian Ital-ian boys or girls, according to Mr. Burascano. |
