Show NEWCASTLE NEWS NOTES I By Norma Christensen With the lovely spring weather weath-er we have been having, everyone every-one around here is getting the annual spring fever. The men have started their farming activities acti-vities and that is a pretty good siggn. The schools also let the children out for their spring va- cation. A number of our teachers took advantage of this vacation to visit their home and families.' Miss Carma Taylor went to Fillmore Fill-more to visit with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. George Jolley and their four daughters, went to Kinston and Antimony, Utah, to visit with their folks. Mr. and Mrs Don Applegate went to An-' timony to visit with their people. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Beklns of Los Angeles, Calif, were here last , week on a combined business and pleasure trip. They stayed with Thomas Forsyth while they were here. . Last week the Relief Svv ladies paid tribute to one of their members, Mrs. Charlene Kneil. They also presented her with a lovely plant. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Knell and 1 their children left our town last week to make a new home In Washington, Utah. We wish Char-lene Char-lene and Leo much success in their new venture, and we are I surely going to miss such willing i worker In our ward. Mrs. Nalda Gardner and son1 Nell, of Cedar City, were here last week visiting with Nalda's mother, Mrs. Geneva Gillies, and, brother, Kenneth. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bekln and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hulet and two sons Kenneth and Daryl, went on a pleasure trly to Glen Canyon. They also went on to Tuba City, Ariz., to visit the Indian In-dian reservation. Mrs. Norma Tnomas and four children of Enterprise were here last week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Christensen, and also her brothers, Boyd and Russell, and their families. Gordon Harrisan of Asusa, Cal., was a visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Knell. He has a business In the northern part of that state, so Vivien went on to American Fork with him to visit with her father. Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Hulet, temporarily of St. George, were here over the week end visiting wlh their son and their families. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Brown of Cedar City were here to visit with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. i Charles F. Hulet. Mrs. Harriet Jones received word of the sudden death of her brother, Hoyt Chamberlain of Kanab. Harriet and Uriah, and daughter, Sophia, went to Kanab to be with the family and to attend at-tend the funeral. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Hulet, were Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Mangum of Pige, Ariz. A musical program was provided pro-vided for the Escalante Valley Lions Club meeting last week by some of our young musicians. Those participating were tiouoy and Gale Knell, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Kay Knell; Beverly and Linda, Lin-da, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Christensen; Kathleen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hji n Knell, and Kenneth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hulet Mrs. Vlv. ian Knell and Mrs. Lou Knell accompanied ac-companied the young people. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hart, Jr., have been two of Shirley's brothers, Jerry and Deloy Esplln. Jerry Is a stu-dent stu-dent at CSU, and DeLay has Just recently returned from the Western West-ern Canadian Mission of the LDS Church. Ward Conference was held here Sunday. The ward bishopric, consisting con-sisting of Melvin Hulet, bishop; Sterling Tullis and Leo Knell, counselor, and Mont Sorenson, ward clerk, were released from their duties and a new bishopric was sustained by the ward membership. mem-bership. Mont Sorenson Is our new bishop, with Charles Hart, Jr., and Warren Piatt as the counselors, with Russell Christensen, Chris-tensen, as ward clerk. Lyle Jones of Enterprise and DeLoy Esplin of Orderville, were speakers at our meeting Sunday. Little Nellie Gal Hart, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hart, Jr., has the chicken pox. The Relief Society held Its annual an-nual birthday party Tuesday afternoon. af-ternoon. Mrs. Roberta Clark and daugh. ter Bonnie of Cedar City, were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Piatt A special film on cancer and its symptoms was shown In the Escalante Valley hall for the women of the Valley. A number of our womenfolk attended. We have had two new families move into town. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Sargent and their family have moved into the Leo Knell home, and Mr. and Mrs. Kent Roberts and their family have! moved Into the Sherman Beach-lam Beach-lam home. |
