The National Guard, undefeated in the first half was dropped to second place and Enterprise, third place team at the end of the first half has moved into the top spot in the exciting league play. Three evenings of play this week have seen Columbia, one of the favorites in the. league, drop to third, suffering fwo defeats while winning one game. Last Thursday evening Enterprise crowded by the miners by the slim, ever so slim margin of 39 to 38. Tuesday the Columbia crew retaliated with a 60 to 36 victory over Bradshaw. Wednesday Wednes-day evening, the upsetting Paro-wan Paro-wan team came from behind in the final quarter of play to hand the miners the second defeat of the week by a score of 39 to 37. Columbia, although not out of the picture for league honors, has only on-? remaining game, that against fifth place Junior Chamber. Cham-ber. Upset of the Week The biggest upset of the week, however came Wednesday evening even-ing when the Jaycees handed the National Guard its third defeat by a L;core of 42 to 38. The Jaycees Jay-cees took a first quarter lead of 13 to 7, and never relinquished it although the point spread at times became very slim. Last Tuesday evening, the Jaycees suffered their fifth defeat in boosting Enterprise to the number num-ber one spoc when the Enterprise team smoihered the Jaycees 33 to 18. Enterprise racked up its third victory cl the week by defeating the Utah Construction five Wednesday Wed-nesday evening, 46 to 24, as a breather to the last week of play. Other games of the week saw Bradshaw's give Parowan a run for its victory, losing by only seven sev-en points, and most of those in the last quarter for a 39 to 32 win for Parowan. Last Thursday evening the Jaycees defeated Utah Construction 32 to 18 and Tuesday the National Guard downed the construction crew 40 to 23. Next Tuesday evening at the fieldhouro the league championship champion-ship will probably be decided when Enterprise and the National Nation-al Guard meet at 8:15. Other games that evening will pit Bradshaw against Utah Construction Construc-tion at 7:15 and the Jaycoes against Parowan at 9:15. |
