Show Basketball Team Ends League Play With Double Loss to Dixie College The College of Southern Utah Broncos finished the regular basketball bas-ketball season rather disastrously disastrous-ly last woek end, losing their last two games to their traditional tradi-tional rivals, the Dixie Rebels of St. George. The Rebels took the measure of the Broncos Friday night at I St. George by a score of 79 to 60. and fell before their southern rivals Saturday night in the fieldhouse by a 57 to 47 margin. The double win kept Dixie in a tie for first place with the Snow Badgers who took two games from the Carbon Eagles of Price. The Badgers defeated the Eagles by a 60 to 50 score In a game played at Price, and defeated them 83 to 53 at Ephralm the following fol-lowing night. The tie between Dixie and Snow necessitated a play-off game to determine which team would meet the Ricks College Vikings of Rexburg, Idaho for the ICAC championship. Ricks won the northern division title, finishing with a record of eight whs and four losses, with Boise In second place, Weber third and Westminster fourth. I Badgers Defeat Rebels The play-off between Snow and Dixie was held at Richfield Tuesday night with Coach Jim Williams' Badgers taking the measure of the Rebels by a score of 74 to 60. The Rebels held a slight lead in the first period, j but the Badgers gradually pulled away from their rivals through-cut through-cut the remainder of the game. As a result the Ephralm team will meet Ricks at Rexburg in a two cut of three series to open Thursday evening. In spite of the two losses to Dixie the Broncos held onto third placs in the division with five wins and seven losses, with Carbon Car-bon remaining in the cellar with tnree wins and nine losses. Free shots from the foul line played n big part In the Dixie wins with the Rebels receiving 36 foul shots to 22 for CSU in the first game, and holding a 30 to 18 margin In the game played on the Bronco floor. In the game at Dixie the Rebels Re-bels gained 28 field goals to 23 for Coach Cleo Petty's Broncos for a ten point margin, but they doubled this lead by making 23 of their 36 foul shots while the Broncos were ringing up 14 of their 22 free throws. In the second game the Broncos Bron-cos scored one more field goal than their opponents, 19 to 18, but again the free shots pushed Dixie Into the lead. The Broncos converted half of their 18 tries while Dixie was making 21 out of 30 free tries. Held Slight Lead The CSU team held a slight lead 20 to 19 at the end of the first quarter of the first game, but Dixie spurted ahead in the second quarter to take 47 to 32 halftlme lead. The Broncos rallied ral-lied In the third period to score 17 points to 10 for Dixie but could score only 15 points to 22 for i Dixie In the last period to lose by a wide margin. Although the Broncos were able to outscore the Rebels from the floor in the second game, they were never able to take the lead because the Rebels were constantly pouring in the points from the foul line. Dixie held a 13 to 10 kad at the end of the first quarter, and increased this to 30 to 20 at half time. Both teams scored ten points in the third period, and then the Broncos Bron-cos rallied In the final period to close the gap to three points near the end of the game.
