Show SEVERAL TOURS PLANNED CSU Expands Campus For Summer The. campus. of the College of Southern Utah will be enlarged by several thousand miles, it was announced today by Prof. Theron Ashcroft, associate professor of physics and engineering at CSU. The enlargement will take place during the summer session June 6 July 15, and will be accomplished ac-complished by bus, automobile and horseback trips into many areas of the fabulous Southwest. "The whole area east, south and west of Cedar City will become a vast laboratory for the summer school students," Prof. Ashcroft explained. "Those of us who have lived in this area all of our lives and do not know of its many wonders owe it to ourselves to do some exploring before we die." A series of trips to areas as close as Cedar Mountain and Silver Reef will be included in the schedule, as well as trips to far away places such as Mexico Mex-ico City. Transportation at a reasonable rea-sonable cost has been arranged by Prof. Ashcroft in cooperation with the Utah Parks Company and other agencies. Groups of students as large as can be accommodated ac-commodated will be included in the trips. Special arrangements in advance must be made for the several trips, Prof. Ashcroft said. Visit to Silver Reef The first trip will be by college col-lege bus to the old ghost town of Silver Reef, some 40 miles south of Cedar City. Dr. Richard v L. Threet, geologist, and William R. Dr. Threet will point out geological phenomena, while Mr. Palmer will discuss the fab ulous history of Silver Reef. The second trip will be a "family "fam-ily social" affair, including students stu-dents and faculty members and their families. It will take place at the Dave C. Bulloch and the Lehl Jones ranches on Cedar Mountain. The recreational program pro-gram will include horseshoe pitching, Softball, volleyball, boating, fishing and horseback riding. After a chuckwagon dinner din-ner there will be a campfire program pro-gram with stories by Mr. Bulloch and Mrs. Palmer. |
