Show William T. Orton, 61 Succumbs, Funeral Services Held Funeral services for William T. Orton, 61, lifelong resident of this community and World War 1 veteran were held in the First-Second First-Second ward chapel Monday at 2 p. m. under the direction of Bishop Claude Adams. Mr. Orton died at his home here late Friday night after a long illness. i Following the posting of the colors by members of Parowan Legion Post No. 20, the opening prayer was offered by Joseph E. Ward. Speakers were Pres. W. Clair Rowley and Pres. R. Taylor Miller, with closing remarks by Bishop Adams. Musical numbers on the program pro-gram were the opening song "Rock of Ages" by a mixed quartet, quar-tet, consisting of Mrs. Mary Top-ham, Top-ham, Ruth Lyman, Wilford W. Young and Claude Orton; a duet "In The Garden", by Mrs. Rula D. Orton and Earl W. Orton; a solo, "Whispering Hope", by Mrs. Topham, and the closing song "Abide With Me" by the quartet. Mrs. Mary Lyman was at the piano throughout the services. The closing prayer was by W. Leonard Evans and the grave was dedicated by Bishop A. Hills Orton, brother of the deceased. The American Legion also had charge of military rites at the cemetery preceding the burial. Pall bearers were six nephews, Ivan Orton, Elwood Page, Paul Orton, Eldon Smith, Elmo Orton and Lyle Halterman. The deceased was born in Parowan Par-owan Mar. 28, 1892, a son of Samuel T. and Esther Johnson Orton. He attended local schools and then worked with livestock during his early life. In later years he engaged In the carpenter carpen-ter trade and was a member of the Kanab local of the Carpenters Union. He was a member of the L D S church. He was one of the first group to enter World War I from Parowan, Paro-wan, and served in the Secret Service branch of the army. He was a past commander of the Parowan Post of the American Legion, and a member of that organization from the time it began. be-gan. He married lona Baldwin of Beaver on May 17, 1927 at Richfield Rich-field and she with the following children survive him: Caudell, Menvil and Sandra Orton, Parowan; Paro-wan; Llewellyn (Dru Ella) Chamberlain, Cedar City. Also surviving are- three grandchildren grandchil-dren and the following brothers and sisters: Silas, T., Ernest, Ellis, El-lis, Don, Twenty, A. Hills Orton, Mrs. Rebecca Smith and Mrs. John Page, all of Parowan, and Joel H. Orton, Union Ore. |
