Show 1 Penniless Miner Bored 2,000-Foot Tunnel Alone Few feats have paralleled that of the min4r, W. H. Schmidt, who worked froVn 1906 to 1938 in digging dig-ging a 2,000-foot tunnel through a granite mountain in Kern county, California. Relizing such a tunnel was the only feasible way he could transport the ore from his claim to the outside world, yet being too poor to purchase modern tools or employ help, he did the job alone, equipped only with a small jack-hammer, jack-hammer, a lantern and a hand-pushed hand-pushed truck for removing the loosened rock. |
