Show Former Coal Mining Foreman Dies Suddenly at Home Merdelr Sherratt, 54, for many years a coal miner of Cedar City and former foreman at the Mac-farlane Mac-farlane Coal company mine, died suddenly early Sunday morning of a heart attack. Funeral services ser-vices were conducted Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Sherratt was born in Cedar City on Sept. 30, 1896, a son of David Dun and Barbara Eliker Sherratt, and spent his life here except for a six year period during dur-ing which he engaged in a dog food business in California. He was educated fn Cedar City schools and had engaged in coal I mining duringmost of his adult life. He returned to Cedar City from California about three years ago and had been foreman of the Macfarlane mine until about 10 days ago. At that time he resigned to accept employment at the Page ranch west of Cedar Ce-dar City. he is survived by his widow, Vera Blakely Sherratt, whom he mairied in Las Vegas, Nev., Mar. 22, 1947; a son by a former marriage, mar-riage, Wallace M. Sherratt; a step-son, Harvey Blakely, all of Ceaar City; six brothers and sis-tei.-, Mrs. Tena Renshaw, Hollywood, Holly-wood, Calif; Mrs. Mary Thomas, Mrs. Norine Goodwin, Los Angeles; An-geles; Mrs. Margaret Walker, Cedar Ce-dar City; David Sherratt, U. S. Navy Station, San Francisco. Burial was In the Cedar City cemetery under the direction of the Southern Utah mortuary. |
