Show MESSAGE j To Our Men Now In Uniform Cedar City, Utah, May 15, 1951 Men of the Military Forces, My Dear Friends: For several weeks I have thought that our splendid local paper should provide a special column addressed to you men in the armed forces. Yesterday I approached ap-proached our congenial editor, Mr. Rollo, with the idea. He accepted ac-cepted it and proposed that I write the column for tomorrow's edition. I know there are many of your friends who could and will in the future do a better job than I am able to do, but I am very willing and anxious to communicate com-municate with you. I. want to first thank you for the replies to my previous letters. They have helped 'me to more fully understand your problems and feelings and to appreciate the great service you are rendering ren-dering to us and to humanity generally. My young friends, you must know that we are dutifully concerned con-cerned about your welfare. We are interested in and watch every move you make. We have the greatest confidence in you. 1 We are mighty proud of the brilliant bril-liant manner in which you per formed recently in combat, We hear glowing reports of your determined de-termined and courageous stand against the enemy. You certainly covered yourselves with glory. We commend you and honor you for discharging your responsibility responsi-bility so admirably. Mother's Day was fittingly observed ob-served last Sunday. Mothers everywhere about us were honored hon-ored as you would have liked them to be. Their mission in life was recognized and properly praised. Perhaps no one knows their genuine worth more than you men who are now separated from you mothers and wives. But let me say too, that no one anywhere any-where today is the recipient of greater concern and love of fond mothers, wives and sweethearts, than you boys. The spark of divinity di-vinity with which God has so generously endowned them is hovering over you night and day. I feel confident that in your most trying moment that spark enlightens and enlivens your soul and beckons you on against temptations, hadships and evil. The power and influence I have referred to is second only to the power and influence of the Creator Himself. And let me assure all of you that the humble hum-ble request made of me in writing writ-ing by one of you that "I pray for him" is being earnestly and regularly heeded not only by me but by most everyone not only privately but publicly. I hope all of you have access to the church section of the Deseret News and will read from the May 16th edition edi-tion the article entitled "Mormon Soldier Relates Experience in Combat". Believe it or not we have Just had our second soaking rain and snow storm this month. The mountains are whiter than they were most of the winter and we ha vent' had any killing frosts. Sheepmen and Cattlemen are much relieved and prospects for summer grazing is greatly improved. im-proved. Schools are about to close. We are all good and ready for it just as we will be good and ready rea-dy for them to open next fall. Lots of diamonds are in circulation circula-tion on the B A C campus this spring, and several of the girls are replacing the young men in the mission fields. In behalf of all your friends and myself, I express again our love and good wishes to all of you today and everyday. Sincerely, D. L. SARGENT. |
