Show lligh School Athletes Start Track Training j Although the weather has handi-! handi-! capped them considerably about' i thirty aspirants for positions on Coach Monte Bailey's track and field team at the Cedar High school' tre working out each night. It is too early to appraise the strength of the Rednrn in track and field, a number of promising athletes are among those working out. j Among last ear's point winners who are reporting this year are Dirk rice. 440; Claremont Webster,1 440 and 830; Udell Smith, high jump; Blaine Betensen. high jump;! and Don Yumorl, sprints. Bany I Haii;ht a point winner in the mile two years ago, Is back for another try at the distance races. A number of promising tracksters from Herb Milne's Junior High squad of last year, are trying for places' on Bailey's teaml this year, Including Alex Milne, outstanding all-round athlete, who has shown j promise In the sprints, pole vault. I high jump and broad jump; Arlan Bauer, Doug Mlddleton, and Keith Cripps, sprints; Ray Davis, 440 and 880; Miles Morris, mile; Darwin Woodbury, and Rex Nelson, pole vault. Others who are showing promise arc Paul Roberts, hurdles; Irvin? Hackett, high jump and 880; Russell Rus-sell Hunt, weights; Lloyd Grames, miles and javelin; Bod Rollins, 880" and mile; Bob Eddington, shot, and Budd Riddle, sprints. The team will get its first taste of competition In the Hurricane Inviational meet on April 14th. This will be the seventh year for the Huricane meet, and twenty-five twenty-five schools fremj Southern Utah, Southern Nevada and Northern Arizona are expected to participate. The meet this year has been expanded ex-panded to include tennis, and a girls' posture parade. |
