Show 1 Parowan Man Killed In Iwo Jima Rattle Mr. nnd Mrs. Alma Hyatt of Pur-' owan were notifed last week that their son Pvt. Earl Duvall Hyatt, 1 had been killed In the battle for Iwo Jima. The 18-year-old Marine! gave his life on March 5th., six days after he had landed on the flaming Island. Hyatt was a member of the Third Marine Division which went ashore on Iwo on February 28th. On the following day he wrote to his parents, par-ents, saying that he was writing while In his fox-hole. The letter was received by Mr. nnd Mrs. Hyatt only a few days before the official' notification of their son's death. Pvt. Hyatt was born In Parowan on April 3. and had lived there nil his life until he entered service. He graduated from the Parowan high fchool on April 28th., 1944, and entered the Marine Corps on June 28th of that year. He received his training at San Diego and Ocean-side, Ocean-side, California and left for overseas over-seas duty on November 11. 1944, und reached his buse on December ' 28th.. and landed on Iwo on February Feb-ruary 28ih. In his last letter he mentioned the four 28th) days of the month which were outstanding days In his life. Surviving are his parents. Alma ,Earl tnd Thelda Bleak Hyatt; one brother, Moroni B.
