Show Cedar City Jaycees Will Honor Athletes At Fourth Annual Athletic Award Banquet Friday The Cedar City Junior Chamber ef Commerce will hold their fourtn annual "Athletic Award" banquet Friday evening, May 2nd, at the Escalante Hotel at 8:30 o'clock at which all athletes of the Branch Agricultural College and the Cedar City high school will be honored and the outstanding athlete-scho'.ar in each group will receive a special award, it was announced today by Dr. R. W. Farnsworth, chairman of the committee in charge of arrangements. ar-rangements. The Junior Chamber will present a gold medal to the college student who has been outstanding in athletic ath-letic activities and at the same time maintained a scholastic record that marks him as a leader in both fields. The similarly outstanding high school athlete will receive an award which Is presented by W. F. Mullett of the Mullett Jewelry Store. While the winners of the awards have now been chosen, Junior Chamber officials have requested that the names not be made public until tomorow evening. The awards last year were presented to Joe Lambert Lam-bert of the B.A.C. and Bryant Leigh of the Cedar City high school. Speakers at the banquet will include in-clude Mayor H. H. Lunt, Director Henry Oberhansley of the B.A.C, I. N. Wright, principal of the Cedar City high school. Derrill Ronnow, B-A.C. student body president, H. B. Linford, athletic coach at the college col-lege and Flovd Slntpr w- .1 , UK fS. local high school. Musical numbers will be furnished by a string trio composed of Carlyle Marsden, Miss Henrietta Jones and Miss Oeorgia Lorensen. In addition to approximately 62 athletes' from both schools, and Mayor Lunt, Director Oberhansley, Mr. Wright, Mr. Ronnow, Mr. Linford, Lin-ford, Mr. Slater and Mr. Mullett, special guests at the banquet will include M. J. Urie. member of the B.A.C. board, L. N. Marsden, Iron county representative to the state legislature, Hazen Cooley and Wayne Bennlon, secretary and dean of men at the B.A.C., respectively, and E. M. Corry, president of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce. Assisting Dr. Farnsworth in the arrangements for the entertainment are Steve Asmus and Bert Carpenter. |
