Show Art Exhibit Will Feature Pictures From Taos, N. M. A number of pictures in the annual an-nual Cedar City Art Exhibit, May 4th. to May 18th., are being sent from Taos, New Mexico, the home of one of America's foremost art colonies. Two excellent Taos artists ar-tists exhibiting locally are HelPi Greene Blumenscheln and Kenneth Ken-neth M. Adams, A. N. A. Although born In New York, Helen Blumenschein has lived In Taos since 1918. She has studied lithography litho-graphy at the Art Students League in New York and has studied and exhibited in Paris. At the present time some of her lithographs are in the Congressional Library at Washington, D. C. and in the New York City Public Library. Mrs. Blumenschein's specialty, however, is portrait painting and she is sending an excellent example of It in her "Self Portrait". Two other pictures of hers in the exhibit are "Rio Chiquito", a landscape, and "Zunl Shalako", a landscape with figures. Mrs. Blumenschein Is the wife of America's well-known artist. Ernest Blumenschein. Kenneth M. Adams was born m Topeka, Kansas, and studied at the Art Institute in Chicago, the Art Students League of New York, and in various parts of France and Itfllv. Dnrlne 1918 he served as a private in the United States army. He settled in Taos in 1924. Mr. Adams has done murals in the post offices of Ooodland, Kansas, Kan-sas, and Deming, New Mexico, the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center, and the new Coronado Library at the University of New Mexico. He has been teaching at this institution institu-tion for the past several years. Like Mrs. Blemenschein, Mr. Adams has exhibited in America's best galleries and won several prizes, the most notable of which is the $1,0.00 First Prize at the 1940 Now York World's Fair in the exhibit of Contemporary Art of the U. S. Locally, Mr. Adams Is exhibiting three oids: "Still Life", "Autumn Morning", and "Little Spanish American Girl". This last is one of the artist's more recent creations, and according to Mr. Adams, marks an important step in his artistic development. |
