Show B. A. C. TFAiVI LOSES TO SN3WACADEMY Ephraint Ilitfh Hoopers Fall Over Time Line One Point Ahead of ArrIcs. WAS OFF NIGHT FOR LOCALS ALL THROUGH "First Time in Six Years a Game Has Been Stolen From Me by Official," Says Coach Jack Christenscn. , The B. A. C. basket ball team did not win state championship honors .this year a' had been confidently hoped and expected by Ueir friends at home. After defeating the Dixie Academy team at Beaver but week Wednesday and obtainin." the decision on the tic which had existed between the twi teams, the boys went to Milford, where on Friday ni lit they played the Hinckley Academy boyr, and won by u score of :i'i to lit. Their next game was ut Mt. Pleasant Monday niuht with the Snow Academy team of r'ph raim. The I?. A. C. boys went into this gunie with a number of handi caps. To begin with, Thorley, their star guard, had a severe cold and was not in a state of health to play good ball some of the younger members of 'he team who playing this ) o SI fot the li t time, wars somewhat be wilder il with their tain ride, Jhoii day in Salt Lake City and other dis traction:. . ill BS the loss of con siderable sleep; the floor had been pn pared for a da are and was slick, o condition they were unaccustomed to; the referee who had bean arsjaagsd foi from Salt Luke Ch'ty, failed to put in an appearani e, nnd Principal Allrei' of the Mt. Pleasant Hijih School, ref ereed the gams. Concerning his we I Coach Christenscn says that while he dislikes to criticize officials, as people peo-ple usual rv ' tt down xru' to cover the loss of a fame, but hr positively states that this is the first time in six years that a came has be SI stolen from him by an official. Prof Mlred's .' Isloni were so rank that he was frequently "bawled out" b) the townspeople, und that not less thin n dozen business men ofi that plac after the game, stated that it wa positively rank, the way the game was reforeed. But not withstanding thi biased work of the referee the hoys would unquestionably have won the rnme had they been playing in their usual form. Notwithstanding all this, Coach Christenscn states that the team of the Snow Academy is one of the bail they have encountered this year, the players being lane, hu: kv fellow as large or larger than Griffin, tin big man of the H. A. C. team. They played good ball all the way through u majority of the time maintaining a slight lead of the B. A. C. When the trunshot sounded time up at the con-elusion con-elusion of the game the Snow Academy Acad-emy was one point ahead. Had the victory yonc to a team very much superior to the B. A. C, our coach and team would not have felt as keen disappointment at losing; but they cannot help feeling that had it not been for one of half a dozen conditions, con-ditions, the game would easily have been theirs. Coach Christensen brands us absolutely abso-lutely false the report in circulation here the first of the week that the boys lost the game through indulgence in Intoxicating drinks. Mr. Christen sen states that while he did not see any of fhe boys touch liquor, he could not positively state thnt none of them accepted of a treat on the outcome of the game at Milford; but that none of them were any the worse for what they may have drank there and that after leaving Milford he was positive none of them touched a drop of anything any-thing Intoxicating. Be further states that the bo ' let themselves in a gentlemanly and proper manner at all times, and make a good appearance and are well received wherever they go. He says thev were the victims of a series of circumstances, which took the champioi h "f the state from them this year, but he confidently expects ex-pects to have the winning team at next year's tournament. It should be remembered that onlv two of the hoys were in the te m prior to this seuson, and with three new members it is to all intents and purposes a new team that he has hud to work with this season. With one more year of practice he feels confident that they will give an excellent account of themselves. |
