Show B SOME SHEARING. K It seems that the machines - for shearing sheep ha3 displaced M the old way of shearing by hand. H Andrightly it should when we H takon into comsderation how f, mucfi more can be done with B the machine than in the old H wayv.AtLunda few days ago m one of the men with a machine H" made a record which is most ' surprising. He sheared four ' sheep in six minutes, which if H the speed could be kept up iHH iiiiiB B ' . .. mi - would be 40 sheep per hour. 'In eight hours that would mean 320 sheep. When it is considered that 70 to 80 sheep in .eight hours is an average days work, and a good hard one at that for a man with the hand shears, it is no wonder that the machines will always be preferrable. A recent issue of one of the Salt Lake papers contained a statement that an Australian shearer with a machine accomplished accom-plished the gigantic task of shearing 346 sheep in a little better than nine hours, but it is not stated how much tho shear-, er worked over nine hours. It is very quick work, anyway. |
