Show TRAVELING MEN HAVE TRYING EXPERIENCE. A trio of traveling men composed of Archio Gilbert, Hyrum Jensen and Clarence Nolson blow into town Wednesday Wed-nesday from tho north sands baggage and registered at tho Cedars hotel Soon by a Record reporter, they told rather a "touching" story of their trip across tho mountains from Panguitch and of tho night that they spont in Bear Valley. They left Panguitch Monday morning morn-ing in an outfit employed to tako them to Parowan, and with one light lunch, expecting to bo at their destination in time for supper. They found the snow much deeper and the roads infinitely worse than they had expected, and before be-fore tho heavy climb up through Bear Valley, had been accomplished their were wet and tired from walking and pushing on tho rig, and night coming on found them not yet to the top of the hill. Tho team was unable to proceed pro-ceed further, and there was nothing for it but to spend the night in the rig. They had no bedding, of course, and so taking their scats in the buggy and drawing their coats and a scanty supply of wraps about them the best they could, they prepared to spond tho night, not in sleep, for in their shivering condition sleep was out of tho question. ' Would that night ever pass! It seemed like a week to the marooned knights of tho road, but at last faint streaks of approaching daylight were seen in the eastern horizon, and it was decided to push on towards their destination. As thoy proceeded the snow drifts became deeper, some being be-ing four feet in depth, and at last near the top one was encountored that the team was utterly unable to negotiate. As a last resort, tho three traveling men loft their grips and tho rig and "footed it" in to Paragonah, where an outfit was obtained to tako them to Parowan; hero they arrived at about noon, and were in condition to do ample am-ple justice to tho luncheon prepared for them at tho hotel, since it had been 24 hours since they tasted food, and they had walked nearly 20 miles through the most trying kind of roads. They now say, "Never again" in Bear Valley for them at this season of the vear. Mr. Jensen had two toes frozen during dur-ing tho night he spent in Upper Bear Valley, the others escaping without serious consequences. But thoy cannot can-not help but think what might have happened, had a good, old north blizzard bliz-zard arisen whllo they were in the buggy Monday night. It is not yet known what became of the teamster, who was left with the rig, but it is thought that ho could make it back down to Panguitch. |
