Show B. A. C. MS qhtsuk. Defeated Only by Pleasant Grove . for State High School Championship. THIS DESPITE THE LOSS OF TWO STRONG PLAYERS Awarded Second Place in State Tourn- ament, and Cause the Northern Teams to Take Notice. The B. A. C. basket ball team, champions of tho Southern high school division, returned from Provo Sunday, after giving tho other teams of tho state a hard raco for championship champion-ship honors, and having obtained tho award as second best team at tho tournament. In addition to this, the B. A. C.'s shifty little forward Wood-ard Wood-ard was deemed worthy of a place on the all state team, and was declared de-clared tho best forward in the high school division. The playing of the B. A. C. team in the two first games of the meet were the surprises of tho tournament. In the first game they drew Boxeldcr, which had been picked by many as the probable winners of first place. This was the first gamo called, being played on the evening of March 4th. The northern team went into tho game with full confidence in themselves and a very low estimato of the B. A. C. boys. From tho very beginning of tho game our boys showed their superiority. su-periority. They had possession of the ball most of tho time and tha score showed that they were not merely holding it. All of the boys played well, while Woodard was tho sensation sensa-tion of the evening, making twelve baskets from the field. The score at the end of the game was 40 to 19 in favor of the southern school. Out of k Boxelder's 19 points only 6 were made on field baskets. u , From the score it would appear that f ,1. there was some reason other than Tt,nL'jiAiiL7" "" '"""'-'""fid""'"' "nh" paft of "trie W' wBoxolder frvV?or their defe5t;and that the action of the Salt Lake pa pers in stating that these two teams tied for second place, was rather ill-advised. ill-advised. Tho next night, March 5th, it fell to the lot of the local team to meet the Payson high school team. At tho beginning of tho game tho Payson boys appeared to have the better of it, and it looked as if the B. A. C. was to be eliminated from further contest con-test Just before the close of tho .i first half, however, tho tables were turned, and from that time on tho B. A. C. led in tho score and the gamo finished 40 to 37 in favor of our home team. This gave us a tie with tho Pleasant Grove High for the state , championship. ) This tie was played off March C. During tho first fifteen minutes play- 1 ing our boys lead tho score, but the ' strain they hod endured for the paEt I three or four days and nights, with li practically no change of men, proved . . too much for them. They were tired i out, and tho forwards failing to make l several good baskets, hope and inter-i inter-i F est in the gamo alike vanished, and tho Pleasant Grovers won by ascore ,, ( of 43 to 14. ; E Tho splendid showing made by the 3, B. A. C. boys is an excellent adver- '' tisement for the school and proves -,,1 that we have as good men physically, as well as mentally, as are to bo found ' - in any part of the state It also sig- " nifies that there is a coach at the B. ,a A. C. now who is capable of bringing -J out the best that the men have in !l them, and this augurs well for the j coming track athletics which will now J . claim tho attention of tho high schools "3 '' throughout tho state.
