Show CALLED HOME Pioneer Woman is Called to Her Final Rest Died, at her home in Cedar City, Sunday, October 20, at 11 o'clock p. m., Jane yithers Middleton, one of the pioneers of Utah and one of the earliest settlors in Cedar City, at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 4 days. :? Deceased was born September 22, 1840,. in the town of Ayr, Scotland, and came to America in 1802, crossing the plains to Salt Lake City with one of the first ox-team immigrant companies com-panies that came to Utah, walking walk-ing the greater portion of the distance. Shearrived at Salt. Lake City SeptemheV 22, 18G2, and shortly thereafter was married to John Middleton. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Middleton came to Cedar City, where they resided for a year, removing to Hamilton's Fort, where they resided re-sided until her husband's death which occurred in i895. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Middleton rerurned to Cedar City, where she has since resided. re-sided. Deceased leaves six children. as follows: Dr. George W. Middleton of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Anna M. Cox of Moapa, Pevada, Mrs. W. H., Pace of Middleton of Cedar City. In addition, deceased leaves thirty livir.g grand-children. Before leaving her native land Mrs. Middleton was converted to and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and eyer since has lived a faithful christian life and remained, re-mained, a devoted member of the church. She was a person who loved books, and until the closing clos-ing hours of her life, took a great delight in reading. As a child she received much of her instruction from the Bible and Burns, and always had a deep desire for spiritual readings and the poems of the poet of her native land, practically every one of which she knew "by heart." An exalted sense of honesty hon-esty and a desire to be independent independ-ent were, perhaps, the strongest points in her character. Funeral services were held in the tabernacle in this city Wednesday Wed-nesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. |
