Preparation for the same has taken many hours work and incurred in-curred considerable expense. It is the adopted system for the A,. L. A. libraries, the only one for Carnegie's. This method ofcharging calls for an application card, book pocket and book.card, also borrowers bor-rowers card and registration record, rec-ord, in which every applicant is given a number wlhich he retains as long as he uses the library. The first card is givqn each borrower. bor-rower. If lost ordi9troyed the fine will be five cen s. Damage to the book pocket a a fine of the same amoti cf f For the past six months we have extended ?xtre me leniency to our readers yit i regard to fines, wishing to attract all to our library tjhat fts benefits might become knowh and enjoyed enjoy-ed by all. The circulation has increased remarkably. Regulations Regula-tions have not been strictly enforced en-forced but now" we shall be obliged to be 'more exacting, and we believe ifcyiwill be better for our readqrs as children will learn to be more careful than some of them arej; at present.' Our new system does not provide pro-vide a duplicate card as did our carbon pad method, hence the loss of a card means the cost of a new one, which the five cents pays for, and does, not mean the infliction of a penalty so much as making the losagood. Until borrowers are 'registered and applications ap-plications filled tire process will , appear sloy.w-4iafow,e feel assured all willsmpreciate the up-to-date change.' |
