"The Itules of Civility, or Certain Ways of Deportment." published pub-lished in 1073, gives minute directions. Supposing "a person of quality detains de-tains you to dlno with him," it is prescribed pre-scribed thnt "when tho porson invited is sit he must keep himself covered till the rest sit down aud the porson of quality bos put on his bat If tho person of honor drinks a hcnlth to you you must be sure to be uncovered. If he speaks to you. you must likewise be uncovered till you havo answered him. If one rises from the tabic before be-fore the rest ho must-pull off his hat" |
