Many Visitors at Club Meeting. We had a splendid list of visitors at our club meeting Saturday, June 2nd. We are always glad to welcome those who come in friendship. I believe we had near one hundred people present. including visitors and members, and am glad to say that all seemed to enjoy en-joy themselves. On ncocunt of the tardiness of the chairman of the entertainment enter-tainment committee, we had to dispense dis-pense with a program, but the meet ing was closed and dancing and other I entertainment began that much sooner. soon-er. Mr. Tom Frey, Jr.. is visiting with his narents. Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Pray. :: Miss Moon reports that Mr. Ray Moon, her brother, was one of the contingent to go from Lund last Saturday Sat-urday i join the navy. The leave-taking leave-taking of the "boys" at Fund must have been scry like one in which your correspondent took psirt in M at Fas Cruse, N. M. Those who have not witnessed such a parting cannot well understand the sorrow, mingled with the love and pride which animates those who are left behind. My readers read-ers will perhaps pardon me if I relate a persona! incident of the l.as CPuae scene. I was a stranger in a strange land, having gone from Colo, to Fas Cruse to enlist, and was standing somewhat aloof and alone. Watching the scene with misty eyes. All about me were "boys" leaving loved ones mother- and fathers, sisters and brothers, broth-ers, sweethearts and wives. I seemed to be the only one in, all that throng who had none to bid me Godspeed. Suddenly a soft, sweet voice spoke beside be-side me. I turned and through the mist of unshed tears I saw a beautiful beauti-ful old lady and gentleman standing beside me, It was the mother who addressed ad-dressed me. "Have you no one to bid you good'bye?" ihe asked. "No, mother," mo-ther," I answered; "1 em all alone and a stranger here. rhen we will adopt you," she said. "Father and I have a son about your age somewhere where, We do not know; but if he is alive, we hope he ll doing as you are doing." They talked to me until orders to "Fall in" came and then she kissed me pood-bye and father gave Die a hearty hand-clasp and a Ood speed, and I left l.as Cruse a better man with their words treasured in my memory. God rest their ouls, where-ever where-ever they may be. My one regret today is that I am too old and too near a physical wreck to answer again when the bugle calll "Fall in." |
