Show BOND ELECTION ' I IS TOMORROW I Voters Will Decide thc Question of jfl New District School Building: I With Their Ballots. M A district school bond election will fl bo held in Cedar City tomorrow to S decide whether tho proposed now school building will bo undertaken at "" "W this timo or not. M It will be remembered that about a year ago this question was submitted ,1 to the qualified voters of Cedar City, and at that time it was defeated. H But tho pressing need for bettor H school accommodations forces tho .H question upon the pcoplo again at H this timo. M THhcre appears to bo somo division ' on thc part of tho school board as to H tho architectural features of the H building, nnd thc qualifications of the ;H architect, that was retained by the H board a year ago for this work, and ' the diversity of opinion is shared in -H by tho public generally. H There appears to bo somo division for retaining nn architect at all un- M till it was known that the people would endorse tho erection of a build- H ing; for employing an outside archi- M tcct, when we have a local man in all M probability just as good, and with H northern associates who stand pre- eminent in thc profession in this Btate; - for tho selection of a plan that is lack- " H ing in a number of the important es- M sentials of a modorn school building; M for awarding tho architectural work upon the consideration of only two sets of plans; for not calling in other 'M pubHc-Bplrited citizens, men of ideas K and affairs, to advise with. the bouiL4y hvT4atlon;V!MWVf-&rtt jM.bufAwr- f t'JI4 without firsts spending, a; little time . t ,, V AflH a?id money to"1 Inspect the..bes,t moerri M9.J school buildings in" various parts of ": the state. These arc some of the cri- J ticisms that have reached The Record 'H in relation to the projected school H building, and tho claim that the bujld- H ing outlined cannot be built with tho H money for which the school district H can bo bonded. H Tho justice of some of these criti- H cisms arc admitted by members of H tho school board, others are explained H or denied. Thoy state that tho archi- H toct has agreed to make whatever H changes or modifications tho board, H may suggest. H At the same time there is a strong H feeling of unrest on the part of many H citizens, and the fato of tho election ' H is in tho balance. H The Record docs not caro to assumo H the responsibility of advising voters H what to do undor the circumstances. , H The school building is an absolute ne- cessity, and ev$n a year's delay, under H tho conditions, is a Berious matter. H Notwithstanding there will probably not be another large school building H erected here for many, many years to H come, and It is important that no mis- H take bo mnde in its planning and con- H struction. Neither do we want to H undertake a building that we will be H unable to complete. We should like to see thc building that we are to H erect represent the very last word in H modern school facilities, from tho B standpoint not only of appearance, S but of convenience, comfort, sanitary 9 arrangement and economy. To get B this it is important that the matter ' S "bo entrusted to the very best archi- $p tect available, And if at the same p time we can favor ono of our local Syji nrtisans, so much tho better. n On tho whole, perhaps tho be6t thing ml to do is to vote for the bonds nnd )$$ trust to tho better judgment and un- f( biased opinion of thc board to do tho , Wk wisest thing in the matter, Wo be- '" w, lievo that tho least tho school board .;' ,. $Jp; can do is to invito the expression of ; jk tho pcoplo's wishes through tho mod- ,'. ium of tho Commercial Club or other .? ' K, public organization, on tho subject. ' The trustees should bo tho servants of ' iSK tho people, and should be willing to .;-,.' defer somewhat to their wishes in ' . "$$ tho matter, notwithstanding tho law "'IffM placos it solely in their control. i ?jM iffiBlt |
