Show Preserving Foods. A new method has been tllsecovered, says an English paper, for preserving various food products, especially milk powtW, the Idea being based upon placing tho substance lu n sealed vessel ves-sel or pivklng easo with Inert gas, so t.'iat this latter prevents the usual spoiling of contents by tho action of the air. In the French pntented process pro-cess the milk powder Is packed in metal boxes of convenient size, which aro entirely sealed except for a pinhole pin-hole that Is left at tho top. A number of such boxes arc put In tt chambei and tho air Is exhausted by means of an nlr pump. When this operation Is Mulshed valves aro opened which allow nitrogen to enter tho chamber and Mil up tho several hoxes. When opening up the chnmber the boxes nre quickly removed and the pinhole soldered he-fore he-fore an appreciable amount of air has tlmo to enter. In this way the contents con-tents of the boxes aro kept In an atmosphere at-mosphere of Inert gns, nnd the process Is thus practical from an industrial standpoint. |
