Curtis Cur-tis waa the first airplane manufacturer manufactur-er to adopt the pneumatic tire on a substantial scale. Wright Bros. used skids in their first experiments, and were slow to see the practicability of rubber tires. The plane in which Curtis made his first long flight, the one over Lake Erie, was equipped with Goodrich airplane tires. Tires used in aviation evolved from the bicycle tire. The first tires used by Curtis at Hammondsport, N. Y. were bicycle tires. |
