N. Jar-vis Jar-vis of Salt Lake county formed a bone of contention, which prompted some djzen or so of the delegates to wrangle for an hour and a half bfore Delegate Jarvis was seated. M Joseph Oliver of Ogden and James Paxman of Salt Lake, temporary chairman and temporary secretary, respectively re-spectively were elected permanent perma-nent officers, and V. F. Burlison of Bingham waa'electeo vice chairman. After a vote was taken admitting admit-ting newspaper representatives to the convention, the convention conven-tion adjourned until 1:39 p. m. Committees on rules and business busi-ness were named'at the opening of the afternoon' session. Following Fol-lowing the election of the committees com-mittees the state platform was read and adopted, fdllowing debates de-bates on several of the planks. The platform in substance was the same as that adopted by the national party. Nominations began at 5 ,'30 p. m. The names of 'those put in nomination did not meet with any great amount of opposition, the principal difficulty encountered encoun-tered before a yote could be reached being in the refusal of several of the nominees to permit per-mit their names to be voted upon. up-on. Besides Candidate Burt the following were voted upon for candidacy for the gubernatorial nomination: II. W. Lawrence of Salt Lake, Victor R. Bohman of Peterson and - Dr. W. H. Schock of Richfield. Burt was nominated on the second ballot by a vote of 30 to 23 over Bohman. |
