Show CRIME DECREASING WITH CITY WOMEN Denver, March 3, 1920. (Special.) Crime is on the down grade among women as a result of the effects of national prohibition according to officers of-ficers of tho Salvation Army provincial provin-cial headquarters in Denver who have been making a careful study of social so-cial statistics since July 1. Reports have been compiled from all states in the inter-mountain province for n six month period. "Drink has been tho enemy of wo-mnn wo-mnn in nn indirect and direct sense," T..leutcnnnt Colonel John W. Cousins said today in announcing the result of his studies. "Women who drank in tho pnst almost invariably fell to criminnlity or immorality as a result. A large percentage, of tho fallen women wo-men of tho nntion were dragged to their station ay a result of association with drunken men. "It is my opinion thnt the nation will feel a pulsation of awakening social consciousness as soon as the psychological ecects of wur unrest pass. The newness of prohibition will soon wear off and the rising generation genera-tion will know nothing of its evils. The saving in souls of women who have been dragged to early graves by drunkencss and vice will justify the drnstic steps taken. "Tiie effects have begun to show. Children nro better fed and happier. The wage earner spends his money to feed his family. Girls are enjoying more of the comforts of life. Temptations Temp-tations have decreased and the result is lessening of immorality." |
