Show The Pay-No-Bills Man. This is an age of Wonders, and not the least of its products is the character charac-ter that knows how to sail along serenely se-renely through life "doing" everybody and enjoying the est of whatever is going. Sometimes we hear it said of such a character. "Why, he goes to church," etc. Of course, he does and do you, gentle reader, think for a moment mo-ment that he doesn't beat the church, too? No man is a rogue outside the church and just inside it. No, not at ; ail. Is it not strange that there are laws ftgainst almost all kinds of rogues and criminals, but none that fits this character? He is apparently happyall the time, dresses well, feeds well and aims at good society, and even entertains enter-tains sometimes, but never pays the bill. Our only satisfaction after having to do with him is to thank God that things are not quite as bad as they might have been, and, of course, we have our experience, which is something some-thing that people at times consider valuable. Neither is this a rare character to meet. You can find him, yes, and her, too, almost any day if you are disposed to be good natured at your business. Parish Calendar. |
