Show y More Work and Less Talk. Pope Pius X believes in lay co-operation. He said so in his first encyclical. But he believes in co-operation that co-operates. lie has no use for those societies which nurse along a never-failing crop of orators, and turn out periodic volumes of resolutions, and so count themselves the salt of the Catholic mass. But hear the Pope. He says: "We wish that all such societies aim first and chiefly at the constant maintenance of Christian life among those who belong to them. For truly it is of little avail to discuss questions with nice subtlety, or to discourse eloquently of rights and duties, when all this is unconnected with practice. The times we live in demand actioW but action-consisting action-consisting entirely in observing with fidelity and zeal the divine laws and the precepts of the Church, in the frank and open profession of religion, in the exercise of all kinds of charitable works, and, independently of self-interest or worldly advantage." ad-vantage." Eloquence without practice does not appeal ap-peal to the practical mind of His Holiness. His golden words should he written over the desk of every Catholic society room in the United States. The Catholic public are bceomine- tired of ''whereases" ''where-ases" and "be it resolvedes." Piux X has opportunely oppor-tunely spoken in behalf of the people. May his words be heeded.
