Show SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. J. G. Doolittle and children left Tuesday for California. They will be gone several months. Mr. S. G. Murray of the Ingersoll-Sargeant Ingersoll-Sargeant Drill company has gone to Alaska on a business trip. Mrs. Richard C. Halliday of Spokane is visiting Zion, and for a few weeks will be the guest of Mrs. A. H. Tar-bet, Tar-bet, at 623 First street. Miss Katherine Geddes was the hostess host-ess at a charmingly appointed luncheon for twelve given Tuesday in honor of Miss Lockhart of Colorado Springs. Miss Donnellan and Miss Trottie Don-nellan, Don-nellan, entertained a party of fifteen at the lake Tuesday evening. Mrs. George Nape of Lincoln, who has been the guest of Mrs. Daly, has returned to her home. - Mrs. Howard S. Stowe was the hostess host-ess at a delightful luncheon Saturday afternoon. The table decorations were sweet peas, a high vase forming the centerpiece, and loose flowers strewing the cloth. Covers were laid for ten, the guests being Mesdames Kingdon, Rood, Volmer, Kinney, Brownlee, Miner, Coray, and the Misses Buckbee and Kingdon. Miss Beatrice Beveridge celebrated her 6th birthday July 24 by entertaining entertain-ing twenty-three little friends at Liberty Lib-erty park. A delightful luncheon was served, ans every little guest went home voting Miss Beatrice a pleasant hostess. ' Mr. ans Mrs. James Deitrick, who have been visiting Niagara and the Thousand isle region, sailed Thursday, July 24, from Montreal for a yachting trip along the Atlantic coast as far south as Old Point Comfort, where they will be the guests for a month of the groom's mother. Ed Parsons has returned from Oregon. Ore-gon. Dr. H. D. Nils and daughter Bessie are visiting friends in Fortland for a few weeks. The Misses Felicite Dtiguet and Minnie Min-nie Snow have gone to Brighton to spend their vacation. Mr. Edward Gilbert of Chicago, a graduate of Notre Dame, accompanied by Rev. Father Hayes of Evanston, paid a visit to the Intermountain Catholic Cath-olic during the week. Certainly the most delightful of all the pleasant affairs given by the ever hospitable army people was the reception recep-tion to General Funston, followed by the garrison hop, at the military post Friday evening. July 25. From 8 till 10 o'clockSi stream of guests from the city filled the large hall, and after that hour dancing and general sociability j reigned. The orchestra, stationed in the Dai-cony, Dai-cony, rendered the most delightful music, mu-sic, and the gay dresses of the young dancers and the full uniform of the officers made an occasion long to be remembered by the guests of the fort. The large hall had been artistically decorated, and reflected great credit on Captain Harbeson, who was in charge of the preparations. All sorts of military mili-tary insignia, flags. penants and guidons were to be seen draping the walls, while guns, sabers and even cannon were arranged in picturesque places. The hall and the grounds surrounding sur-rounding were hung with hundreds of Japanese lanterns, and a covered passageway pas-sageway led to the Officers' club, where the supper was served. Here a large canvas floor on the northside was covered with the refreshment tables, and tables were arranged on the broad verandas surrounding the club. In the receiving party were, besides General F"unston and Lieutenant Mitchell, Mitch-ell, his aide, Colonel and Mrs. Bubb, Captain and Mrs. Sturgiss and Captain and Mrs. Barth. Assisting in entertaining entertain-ing were Mrs. Pardee, Mrs. Cronkite, Mrs. Cocheu, Mrs. Hepburn and Miss Bubb. Miss Grace Emery has returned to her home from the hospital, where she underwent a painful operation for an injury to her foot. She will soon be able to walk again, however. Mrs. Henry A. Luce returned from Montana Monday. Dr. and Mrs. E. W. Whitney have gone to Holiday park, at the head of Weber, ' where they will spend the month of August. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Smedley and children have gone to Big Cottonwood for a few weeks. Mrs. Ash, sister of Mrs.. Lindsay Rogers, went to the coast last Saturday Satur-day to spend the remainder of the summer. sum-mer. 3 Mrs. N. P. Dooley went to Parowan last Friday night, and will be gone, for i several days. Mrs, William Igleheart and children will return from the east about the middle of August. Miss Judith Rice is home from Columbia. Co-lumbia. Mo., where she has been attending at-tending college. Mrs. Olive L. Gaylord left during the week for southern California, Miss Ada Murphy gave a delightful Kensington to a number of her friends Friday afternoon, July 25. The color scheme was pink and white, the flowers flow-ers used being sweet peas. After, an hour over the thimbles a guessing game was played, in which the first prize fell to Miss Daisy Raybould. Miss Murphy was assisted in serving refreshments re-freshments by Mrs. W. H. Jones, Mrs. Gaby and Mrs. Gurnsey. Miss Winni-fred Winni-fred Evans served punch. Among the guests present were the Misses Dick-ert, Dick-ert, Leonard, Pearl Van Cott, Belle Bartholomew of Chicago, Mary Sharp, Lillie Richards, Leta McMillan. Annie Adams. Edna Coates, Maud McCar-zar. McCar-zar. Barr, Bertha Carter, Edna Duncan and others. Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Rood will soon leave for a brief vacation in California. Cali-fornia. Mr. and Mrs. Goldstrom and daughter daugh-ter of Omaha are the quests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cohn. Miss Pearl Weiler, Miss May Billings. Bil-lings. Miss Edna Harker and Miss Pearl Pierce, all of Salt Lake, are visiting vis-iting Miss La Von Pierce at Brigham City. Miss Alice Wall has returned home from Denver. Mr. A. H. Tarbet left Thursday afternoon aft-ernoon for New York. He will be gone ten days. |
