Show Diocese of Helena HELENA. Mrs. J.M. Ryan gave a dinner Thursday Thurs-day evening. July 24, at her home, corner cor-ner of North Rondey street and Seventh Sev-enth avenue, for Mrs. Avery, of Texas, who is visiting her sister, Mrs. E. W. Bach. The decorations were marguerites. marguer-ites. Those present were Mrs. Avery, Av-ery, Mrs. Hoi brook, of Butte; Mrs. E. W. Bach, Mrs. Peter Larson and Miss Cruse. . One of the most notable events of the week was the lawn party given Monday afternoon. July 21, by Miss Cruse in honor of her guest. Mrs. Hol-brook, Hol-brook, of Butte. Around about the great lawn of the Cruse residence, cor-Benton cor-Benton avenue, were distributed scares of rustic and other seats, over which in artistic array wer red Japanese umbrellas. um-brellas. The summerhouse on the lawn was decorated with sweet peas. Webster's orchestra played selections throughout the afternoon. Refreshments, Refresh-ments, consisting of ice cream and cake were served on small tables distributed dis-tributed about the lawn. A novel guessing contest afforded no little amusement. A crystal iar filled with rose leaves was displayed to the guests each of whom was given an opportunity oppor-tunity to guess the number of leaves it contained. Mrs. W. H. Tatem made the closest guess and was awarded award-ed the first prize, a jug. The guest's prize, a pretty jardiniere, was won by Mrs. Holbrook. About seventy-five ladies enjoyed the hospitality of Miss Cruse on this occasion. Reverend Father Barry, who for some time has been assistant pastor of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, has been transferred to Anaconda, where he will be assistant rector of Saint Paul's church.'' He will be succeeded suc-ceeded here by Reverend Father Henry J. Willy, of Galena, 111., who recently graduated from a seminary in Saint Louis. Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Gonza of Helena are visiting friends in Salt Lake for a few weeks. - Miss Katherine Evans has returned to Helena after spending a few days in Butte as the guest of her brother Doctor O. C. Evans. BUTTE. Mrs. Frank McGinn of Omaha arrived ar-rived in Butte during the week and will visit her mother, Mrs. Lulu Largey, for some weeks. A rare treat was given to the people of South Butte and their friends on the evening of July 19. by the ladies of St. Joseph's parish. The musical programme, pro-gramme, one of the best ever given in South Butte, was arranged by Mrs. Jennie Rae, Mrs. Lemaieux, Mrs. Mc-Taggart Mc-Taggart and Miss L. Price. The audience audi-ence proved their appreciation by the hearty and prolonged applause. The programme was as follows: Piano solo, by Misses Lila Sherrard and Fannie Kelly; tambourine song, by Diana Lemaieux Le-maieux and Eva Serois; piano solo, by Mrs. Quillette: song, by Richard Baker: recitation, by Lawrence Hamilton; Hamil-ton; song by Miss Curtis: cornet solo, by Miss Mabel Baker; recitation, by George Pender; piano solo, Miss May Gratz; song, by Matt Cerff. After the programme ice cream was served in parlors prettily decorated for the occasion. occa-sion. The tables presented a very pretty appearance, with cut glass and flowers, and were charmingly presided over by Mrs. Archibald BarshaWj. Mrs. Grattan, Mrs. Coleman ,Mrs. McDonald, McDon-ald, Mrs. Mayotte, Mrs.. Henry and Mrs. Lemaieux, who showed their popularity pop-ularity by the grand rush which was made for their tables. Sunshine Harriet, have returned to Butte after a pleasant vi!jiOf a week among Anaconda friends The Twentieth Century club picnicked pic-nicked at the Nine-mile canyon on Sunday. Sun-day. July 20. There were ten couples in the party, and the pleasures of the day, Including the bright sunshine, were thoroughly enjoyed. A dainty lunch was prepared -by the young ladies la-dies and spread in a chosen spot, where all gathered and partook of the good things. The bridal party entered the church as the beautiful "Lohengren" wedding march pealed forth from the massive organ. The bride was attended by Miss Lena Hennessy as bridesmaid and Martin Cannon acted as best man. Nuptial high mass was celebrated, the bridal party and a dozen intimate, friends of the bride receiving holy communion. com-munion. The newly wedded couple left on the noon train for a short trip to Boulder. Walsh were over from Butte last week. A slight blaze broke out Saturday afternoon at the home of Jack Creight-on. Creight-on. in the eastern part of the city. The fire department was called out. and made a pretty run to the place, but before be-fore it arrived the fire had been extinguished extin-guished by the prompt action of those present. The fire started in the clothes closet, in what manner 'is not known. Mr., and Mrs. F. W. At the last meeting of the League of the Sacred Heart, officers were elected for the ensuing term, and 1t was decided de-cided to hold no more meetings until the last Friday in September.
