Show SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. John Boyle left this week for Washington, D. C. He will be absent about a month. Mrs. Hoyt Sherman, the Misses Sherman, Sher-man, Miss Donnellan and Miss Salisbury Salis-bury are spending a week or so at Brighton. Miss Olive Donnellan joined them during the week. " Miss Margaret Liggann, stenographer to District Attorney Eichnor, is spending spend-ing a week's vacation at Brighton. , $ Mr. and Mrs. Solon Spiro have returned re-turned from their eastern trip. - A. Fred Wey and family have taken apartments at the Windsor hotel. $ Mrs. Kate Bridewell Anderson returned re-turned to the city from a visit of si weeks in New York. She met with great encouragement with her musical patents, and sang at Temple Beth-El and at the assembly at Ocean Grove, with decided success. She did some work with Mrs. Galloway, the famous voice specialist. Miss Isabel Monahan entertained in a delightful manner recently in honor of Miss Hazel Taylor of Provo, who is in the city visiting friends. Miss Alice Wall is home from Denver. Den-ver. Miss Donnellan entertained a party of about fifteen at the lake recently. Mr. and Mrs. McGurrin gave a pleasant pleas-ant dinner to a party of friends at the Country club recently. Robert Gorlinski and family spent two days at the Brighton hotel last week. Mrs. Joseph Siegel of Butte, who has been visiting in Salt Lake for the past month, left for her home Tuesday. Nat Goodwin and Maxine Elliott, who will play "The Altar of Friendship" Friend-ship" next season, have signed Julia Dean of Salt Lake as a member of their company. Major John M. Burke, general manager man-ager of Buffalo Bill's Wild Wrest, ar-j ar-j rived in the city. John L. Dougherty, congressman from the Third Missouri district, was in Salt Lake, returning from a visit to his mines at Marysvale. Miss Katherlne Geddes was the hostess host-ess at a charmingly informal luncheon last Tuesday, given In honor of Miss Lockhart of Colorado Springs. The table ta-ble decorations were sweet peas, and place cards of the same design were used. The table presented a pretty picture of a summer gathering, the guests present to meet Miss Lockhart being Mrs. D. S. Murray. Mr. R. J. Channing. Mrs. Louise Smedley Smith, and the Misses Dooly, Burke, McCor-nick, McCor-nick, Sherman, Harkness and "Lowe. Miss Jessie Forbes, formerly of Salt Lake but now residing in Denver, has been visiting her parents during the past two weeks. Q President David Keith of the Silver King, accompanied by his daughter. Margaret, returned from a several weeks trip abroad on Friday, Aug. 1. He reports having had a delightful trip, and returns in the best of health and spirits. .He left Senator ' and Mrs. Kearns at Paris, the latter going from there to Ireland, while he and his daughter went on to Baden Baden, where most of the time during their absence they remained. Senator and Mrs. Kearns, Mr. Keith reports, are scheduled to sail for New York on the 23d of the present month. Mrs. M. H. Kervin and family re-I re-I turned from San Francisco, where they had been visiting for a month past. Miss Margaret Hally, who-has been visiting friends in Nevada, returned on Monday last. Mrs. Mary Judge and Miss Kath-ryne Kath-ryne Judge left for San Francisco last Monday, to meet Mrs. T. A. Baldwin, who wil return from Manila on the incoming steamship. Charles McGurrin. residing in Michigan, Michi-gan, is visiting, his brothers, and is the fi-uest of F. E. McGurrin. Albert J. Pfeffer and Lillie Moyer were married on Wednesday by Father Kiely. The. witnesses to -the happy event were F. D. Borland and Rose Moyen - Miss Katherlne McDonald left: the city Wednesday morning for a trip to Glenwood Springs and Denver. Mrs. Alma Katz is spending a few weeks in Soda Springs as the guest of Governor and Mrs. Wells. Mrs. William Murphy and children left Wednesday for Ogden ; canyon. C. A. Quigley Is confined to his house by Illness incidental to the heat. W. J. "Halloran is at Wasatch bronzing bronz-ing his countenance in the summer sun and expanding his lungs with health giving mountain air, In our Irish news last week a paragraph para-graph appeared announcing the retirement retire-ment of Mr. Michael McGrath from the important office of postmaster . of Kingstown, County Waterford. after a long term of service. His colleagues presented him with a massive marble mar-ble clock, a pair of handsome bronze figures and a silver inkstand. Mr. Mb-Grath Mb-Grath had a brother who came to America Am-erica and was at one time correspondent correspond-ent of the Salt Lake -Tribune at Bingham Bing-ham and afterwards added to the staff of that paper. The brother died, leaving leav-ing a widow and two children, one-of whom survives, a young man of IS. employed in the surveyor's oflice of the Oregon Short Line. The widow Is now Mrs. J. B. Decker, residing in this city. Prof. H. S. Goddard was the recipient recipi-ent of a very pleasant farewell party Tuesday evening, the same being held in the Thirteenth ward meeting house. It was under the auspices ofthe ward bishopric and was attended by the people peo-ple of the ward and a. goodly number of Mr. Goddard's musical friends, among them Prof. McClellan, George j D. Pyper, T. S. Ashworth. Mrs. Brown-! Brown-! ing. Miss Patten and Mrs. Lutle Grant Cannon, all of whom contributed to the evening's programme. |
