Show St. Mary's Academy. The program given by the graduates gradu-ates of St. Mary's academy Thursday afternoon was one of exceptional merit. mer-it. The occasion was the production of the class paper, St. Mary's Journal the subject matter of which centered about Shakespeare, the Drama, and in particular, The Tempest, the study of which has lately been engaging the class. The paper wound up rather appropriately appropri-ately in a dramatic way by the performance per-formance of a little play written for the occasion by Miss A. Barry, the president of the class. It was a clever organization of Shakepearean lines, quotations, selections, etc., into a playlet play-let of two very interesting scenes. Wit and humor, brilliant repartee, local hits and jokes, made it one continuous round of interest and amusement. The parts were carried in costume with splendid characterization. Miss Barry delivered the prologue. The Wooing Woo-ing of Henry V was well presented pre-sented by Miss K. McMillan, Miss G. Sullivan making a good Kath-eriae. Kath-eriae. and Miss r Rnnnor c,,!!-. good as her maid. Henry's speech to his troops was rendered with striking force by Miss C. Castles, while Portia s mercy speech was' very well given by Miss E. Wood. The play ended with a graceful drill and minuet. The young ladies appeared on this occasion for the first time in their class uniforms, white and gold, and made a very pretty group on the stage, which was most beautifully decorated with palms, ferns, flowers and. greenery, to correspond with the idea of the "play to represent Prospero's'isle. The "New Song to an Old Air" was a witty adaptation of "school days." It was encored. Ariel's music filled the air. Miss Eva Rogers at the piano seemed a veritable fairy musician, while the "twangling Instruments" of the magic isle were heard now and then as interludes. These caused no little curiosity, until at the end, the class marched out revealing their zabo horns and rendering a march with wonderful simulation of a real band. There was a large and appreciative audience. Among those present: Dean Harris, the Rev. President Guinan of All Hallows college, the Rev. B. Mon-trucchia Mon-trucchia of the cathedral, and quite a number of the alumnae anl other former for-mer pupils of the academy. Very gratifying were the comments made upon the character and artistic finish of the program presented, the nrirrinnlitv anrl filsofna u a v ..vi HI Llie jJlli v especially winning very hearty as well as discriminating commendation.
