Show I ANACONDA, MONT. ( The three weeks' mission which was inaugurated at St. Paul's church in this city Feb. 16, was brought to a close Sunday evening. Rev. E. J, Dougherty, who was in charge of the . mission, preached the closing sermon and gave the papal benediction. The ' mission- was conducted by Fathers Dougherty, Drumm and Rohlman of the Dubuque apostolate, and is pro-. pro-. nounced by Rev. A. R. Cooimian and his people of St. Paul's the most successful suc-cessful of all the missions ever given in the city. The first week was for the women and the second week for the men and the third for the non-Catholics. non-Catholics. The attendance at every one of the exercises taxed the full capacity ca-pacity of the church from the opening to the close. Every evening the aisles, the sanctuary and the sacristies were filled, the largest attendance of all being be-ing present at the closing service. The lectures to non-Catholics wera given in a spirit which bespoke deliberation deliber-ation and fairness towards those who hold theories of religion different from those taught by the Catholic church. The question box brought forth many inquiries regarding the doctrine and discipline of the church, but Father Dougherty gives it as the result of several years' experience in the work that there was less of the "stine" of hatred or narrowness than might tie found in many other communities of much smaller proportions. During the mission an event'whlch was delightful to the members of the Knights of Columbus and the fathers from Dubuque occurred in the council rooms of the association. The fathers met the knights by special invitation, and after spending a most pleasant hour in giving and receiving evidences of good will, congratulations on all th? good work accomplished and heartfelt good wishes for future success, the Knights or Columbus offered substan- " f tial evidence of their g'J " ill i.i ; form of a check for ?lmi. It was feared that b-i.-ause of fact of the closed spason in th? p-. lie works of this city and in B;: their coming to Montana :r.;c'.t p" a failure. This fact, Imwever. in-r;j of a hindrance, proved ti - a - i help to the success of the work. r. attendance here, as in But;?, v certainly a record-breaker in th t tory of missions in thes part'. |
