An interesting reproduction is thai of the McKinlcy cottage, standing near the main gate. The original is in Dervock, County Antrim, and is known as the home of the great-grandfather of the hit? President McKinlcy. The ilcKinlo.w, or as ihey spelled the name in the early days, MeK inlay, in-lay, were originally settlers from Scotland in Ulster, whither they were attracted by the linen industry. They won some reputation in the eighteenth. century by their efforts to "develop and exploit the linen manufacture. Like most of their party, they became, warmly attached to their adopted country coun-try and when the rebellion of 170S broke out, England found in the sturdy Presbyterian slock .of the north some of her bitterest and most implacable enemies. .... ... Francis 'McKinlay was no exception to the rule. He was a splendid drilhnaster ami-soon distinguished himself by his activity in training the young patriois of Dervock in the use of arms. The knowledge of this fact was. not lonjr in reaching, the ears of the authorities, and one night the McKinlay cottage was surrounded by yeomanry, who battered down the doyr and dragged Francis McKinlay from his bed.
