Show VINDICATED. . When the clangorous alarm clock goes off early in the morning to arouse one from sleep, the desire to roll over and have one more snocfee before springing from bed is well-nigh universal. It is so, at least, among the male members of the human hu-man race. The desire of a boy to lie abed after being called is usually attributed to his general cussedness; that of a man to innate laziness. The knowledge that this peculiarity of the genus homo should be the subject of scientific research w-ill be received with pleasure among all those who have felt the strbng inclination to take one more nap before taking up the burdens of the day. That the result of the scientific research should be the discovery dis-covery of a deep psychological reason for the peculiar pe-culiar disinclination to arise is gratifying indeed to all who "turn out" only after several untimely warnings. Dr. Savary of P"aris, who, we are assured, is a very noted and well-known physician and psychologist, psychol-ogist, has issued a warning against getting up in a hurry. He says the man who jumps out of bed as soon as he awakes is committing a sin against health and endangering his sanity. Though this is the first time Dr. Savary of Paris has come to our notice, the rare intellectual attainments of the doctor are at once recognized. We have known for many years that there was some pathological fact behind the instinct to lie abed, and the discovery by Dr. Savary of Paris is a complete vindication of our knowledge. In the discovery, too, there is a vindication of the instinct which for thousands of years has guided the human race. Those knowing know-ing ones -who tell us the lark is up to meet the sun and the early bird catches the worm must henceforth and forever hold their peace or be eternally eter-nally consigned to that inferiority, which is so plainly their due. Instinct and scientific knowledge knowl-edge are against them, and in obedience to that instinc, reinforced by the scientific discovery of Dr. Savary of Paris, we shall defy insanity and insure health for ourselves by continuing ; to get up only after repeated warnings that we will be late if we don't hurry. |
