Show I ELY, I!EV. j Gathering in their pleasant new home, the members of the University club Monday evening elected their "officers and had a general good time, the occasion occa-sion being housewarming in honor of the opening of their new quarters'. The officers elected were H. R. Plate, president; presi-dent; W. X. McGill, first vice president; Pope Yeatman, second vice president; J. M. Lockhart, treasurer; James Blacke, secretary. All of the men elected elect-ed were active in the organization of the club and will doubtless aid much in continuing the success it has achieved up to this time. After the election of officers had been completed and other matters of business attended to, the members of the club took up other' amusements, cards music, billiards, etc., which the club rooms enable the enjoyment of. The buffet proved highly popular. Its attraction was greatly enhanced by a penant bearing the letters, D. A. R. U.. which was hanging back of the sideboard. side-board. Speculation was rife for a time as to the meaning of the mysterious myster-ious initials, but upon explanation being be-ing finally vouchsafed, there was a rush. The meaning is a club secret and few if any of the public are liable to ascertain the significance of the cabalistic letters. let-ters. , The home of the club is situated on Murry street, a detached house of seven rooms at the Hays park being utilized. On the interior ft is- elegantly furnished. There is a general sitting room, a reading read-ing room and writing room, a card room, billiard room, buffet, and two bed rooms. Since organization the club has gained largely in membership and there seems nothing in the way of continuous and successful life for it. Mrs. T. L. Mitchell last Saturday afternoon aft-ernoon entertained a number of her friends with a Washington's birthday card party, thirty-four guests being present. The patriotic idea of the day was carried out well in every feature American flags and red, white and blue bunting composing the decorations, whille to add to the charm of the general gen-eral scheme red, white and blue ices were served. Hearts was the game played. Among those present were Mesdames Baker, Nevin, Hunting Bishop, Cannon, Wadleigh, Razies' Chandler, Bowen, Coleman, Linslov' Hoag, McElroy, Malia, Castle, McGilV Fulmer, Holmquist, Gates, Cleveland' Weber, Witcher, Cohvell, Culbertron' Dickerson. Ulm, Kerin, Fesler. Putnam' Scott. Wallace, Allen, Bahne and Lock-hart. Nicholas Schmittroth has returned from Salt Lake City, where he passed several days.
