Show v SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Miss Mary Halloran, daughter of W. J. Halloran, will return next Monday to St. Mary's academy, Notre Dame, Ind., after spending the holidays here with the family. Mary is the same bright, happy, pretty little lady, very pleased with her school and very happy over a delightful vacation. Ruel Halloran, who is attending Notre Dame university, spent his vacation va-cation in Chicago visiting college friends. Mrs. Thomas Homer and Kathleen will leave in a few days for California. y- f J. C. Sullivan of Eureka was in the city during the past week. Thomas Sweeney of Twin Falls was a visitor in the city this week. He reports re-ports great prosperity in Twin Falls and the surrounding country. The population pop-ulation of the city is 7,0001 It has a new Catholic church, and is attended from Shoshone. C. M. Neuhausen and the children, who have been ill with typhoid fever, ' are all convalescing. Miss Margaret Kilkenny returned to the Sacred Heart academy, Ogden, last Tuesday. f- Harry Nivling, the clever young electrician elec-trician who installed the motor in the Herald's new press, returned to Chicago Chi-cago cn Friday. ! Frank Van Duzer of San Francisco, a cousin to C. T. Van Duzer of Nevada, is in Salt Lake on a business trip and is a guest at the Cullen. Wallace T. Perham of Butte is visiting vis-iting in the city with friends. Mrs. W. J. Shealy of Ogden is in the city for a short stay. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Jenkins and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Daynes, Jr., and families leave next week for a visit of two months in Los Angeles. They will occupy oc-cupy the winter home of Governor and Mrs. John C. Cutler. -- Miss Grace McGonigle, who has spent the past week in Ogden, returned last Monday evening, and is at home with Mrs. Mary Ryder in the Grace flats. Miss Cosgriff has issued invitations for a large evening party to be given next Tuesday evening in honor of her sister, Miss Elizabeth Cosgriff, and William Edward Fife, whose marriage takes place late in the month. W. C. Clive of this city has written an effective composition for the violin called "Melody in A," which is dedicated dedi-cated to Dr. J. M. Dart. The work consists of a tender haunting melody, delightfully harmonious, full of originality orig-inality and in the modern style. The Junior assembly given Wednesday Wednes-day evening at the Ladies' Literary clnub house, under the patronage of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. McCornick, Mr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Dunbar, Mr. and Mrs. P. Bredemeyer, Mr. and Mrs. Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Ferry, Mr. and Mrs. W. Mont Ferry, was a successful affair. Those in charge were Wallace Bredemeyer and Walter Fitch. Mrs. H. S. Daynes entertained at the Emery-Holmes with a linen shower Tuesday afternoon in honor of Miss Jessie Grant of Bountiful, who is to be married shortly. About twenty-five guests were present. The decorations I were white and red roses. In the even-! even-! ing Mrs. Daynes and Miss Grant entertained enter-tained at a card party. Five hundred was the game played and about thirty guests were present. Captain and Mrs. John E. Woodward entertained . about 150 of their friends Tuesday evening at a dance given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Judge. The post hop room was gayly decorated with the season's colors for the occasion, occa-sion, and flags added to the appearance of the place. The receiving party, consisting con-sisting of the host and hostess, the guests of honor and General and Mrs. J. Milton Thompson and Captain and Mrs. George H. Jamerson, stood to the right of the entrance and the upper end of the hall, draped with flags, concealed the place from which later a buffet supper was served. Miss Mary Olive Gray was the hostess host-ess Wednesday at a musical reception at her studio, at which some 200 of her friends were entertained. Miss Gray was assisted in receiving by Mrs. Fisher Fish-er Harris and Mrs. Kate Bridewell Anderson. An-derson. Mrs. Anderson also assisting with the musical part of the programme. pro-gramme. Piano numbers were played by some of Miss Gray's more advanced pupils, among them being Miss Jean-ette Jean-ette Williamson, Miss Ella Dyer, Miss Winnifred Dyer, Miss Theodosia Gray, Miss Lena Wallace and Edward Brown. The rooms were bright ' with flowers and ferns, and were filled with friends during the entire afternoon. Miss Anna Earls will leave next week for Notre Dame, Ind Miss Margaret McDonough was in from Bingham spending the holidays with her mother. Mrs. Thomas Charlton and son Earl are still visiting Mr. Charlton's relatives rela-tives in Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. John Hickey left during dur-ing the past week for California. f J. T. McHugh, now of Los Angeles, is visiting in the city. f Miss Marcella Sullivan returned during dur-ing the week from a visit to Eureka. John Galligan spent last week in Park City visiting his mother. f Edward Shea will return to All Hallows Hal-lows college on Sunday from Eureka, where he has been visiting his mother, Mrs. Patrick Shea. Mrs. Thomas Cronin left last Monday evening for California, where she will spend the winter. ' Miss Julia Fogarty entertained her school friends on Wednesday evening at an informal but delightful party. f Mr. and Mrs. Frank Judge entertained enter-tained a large party of friends on New Year's day. f Miss Kathleen Fitzpatrick entertained enter-tained at a delightful reception on New Year's afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Cosgriff entertained enter-tained in honor of Miss Elizabeth Cosgriff Cos-griff last-week. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Owens have returned from an extended visit in the east. |
