Show SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs. John Quinn of Park City spent a few days in the city last week, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Sugdon. Mrs. Quinn spent the past five months in the east visiting her relatives. Mrs. W. D. Donaher of Park City visited her parents last week. $ James T. Finlen of Butte was in the city during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wood and Miss ood returned last week from an extended ex-tended visit to California. Miss Grace McMonigle of Ogden was the guest of Miss Olsen last week. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Homer and Miss Katherine have returned from California. ? Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Priest are comfortably com-fortably settled in their new home at 275 E street. Mrs. J. De Jong has gone to Minneapolis Minneap-olis to be absent for some time. Mr. and Mrs. David Keith have gone to Hot Springs, Ark., for a short trip. Miss Donnellan left last week for a two months' visit to the coast. Mrs. G. Lavagnino sails on the 28th of the month from Genoa for New J York, where she will probably spend j the summer before returning to her home in the citv. Mrs. William J. Stuart returned to her home in Grand Rapid" Mich., last Monday. Mrs. Stuart made a great many friends during her three months' visit in the city with Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Van Arman. Mrs. J. C. Hanchett will entertain the ladies of the Utopia club next Wednesday, Wednes-day, April 16. at her elegant new home. 521 East Second South. $ Mrs. T. D. Ryan and son of Ogden spent a few days last week with Mrs. Joseph Young. O. J. Salisbury, John J. Daly and E. F. Holmes spent a few days" in Park City last week. Invitations have been received in the city for a large dancing party to be given in Dignan's hall in Ogden by Dr. and Mrs. Conroy and the Misses Con-roy, Con-roy, on the 16th. Samuel H. Auerbach has returned from an extended business trip in the east. . Ben Davis and family have returned from a month's visit to the coast. John Ferrebauer of Soda Springs is in the city on a brief business trip. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Crossman have moved to 978 First street. ! Ex-Governor A. W. Barber of Wyom- j ing is a guest at the Kenyon. E. G. O'Donnell has gone to the Dug-1 way district to look at the Utonian mine in which he is one of the heaviest stockholders. I Mrs. Julian Houtz of Ogden is the ' guest of Mrs. A. J. McMullen. i M. J. Gray, a well known cattleman of St. Anthony, Ida., returned to his ! home last Monday with a carload of : registered Hereford cattle, purchased at a sale here on Saturday. M. E. Callahan and wife of Ogden were in the city last Monday. j E. F. Frudenthal of Piochc is spending spend-ing a few days in the city. The Earl of Fingal, who Is. a major in the British army.', arrived last' evening even-ing from Grand Junction, where ! has been receiving horses for shipment i to South Africa, and is at the Knuts-ford. Knuts-ford. , The grounds about the new $40,000 residence of J. D. Wood on East Brig-ham Brig-ham street have been cleared up and are being laid out for lawn. The house will be ready for the furnishers by May 1. ' ; j N. P. Dooly returned last Tuesday from a trip to Stateline.. The ball given by the United Com- mercial Travelers last evening was a, great success. The enlarged orchestra furnished delightful music, and a banquet ban-quet which would delight the heart ofi any traveling man was spread on the stage adjoining the hall. The hall was beautifully decorated with white,, yellow yel-low and blue bunting, while numerous potted plants and cut flowers were used effectively. A large and enthusiastic enthusi-astic dancing crowd kept the merriment merri-ment up till a late hour. Neil Bonner of Park City came down tc the city last Wednesday. Miss Jennie Nelson of Ogden was the j guest of the Misses O'Brien last week. Miss Mable Maynard has returned ! from a delightful trip to Denver. Miss Maynard is a popular young lady of the Cathedral parish, and her many friends are glad to see her home again. Miss Addie Walker of Park City is the guest of the Misses O'Brien on Third street. D. H. Peery returned last Monday from an extended visit to the southern states. His many friends will be pleased to know that he has fully recovered re-covered in health. The Misses O'Brien entertained at a delightful party on Thursday evening, in honor of their guest, Miss Addie aiKer oi i'arK uy. A pleasant surprise party was tendered ten-dered Miss Clara Fafeck last week, in honor of her fifteenth birthday. Games, instrumental and vocal music formed the amusement of the evening, and delicious de-licious refreshments were served. The guests were Misses May O'Neil, Jovita Laubley, Hallie Foster, Lena Dell, Theresa The-resa Dell, Lizzie Porter, Ivy Evans, Essie Yeskie, Ivie Yeski, Bertha Yeski, Frank Fafek, John Jacobs, Eugene Swalloberg, Care Yeski, William O'Neil and Harry Brown. The young ! hostess was assisted in entertaining by Miss Etha Collins and Martha O'Connor, O'Con-nor, who planned the delightful affair, af-fair, S- Miss Mary Richards of Hailey. Ida., is the guest of Mrs. H. N. Mayo. Mrs. and Mrs. T. C. Glosz have announced an-nounced the engagement of their daughter, Rosemary, to Mr. Horace W. Whitney. The popular young people are receiving the congratulations of a legion of friends. i J. R. Walker went to Butte last week on a business trip. : A musical and literary programme will be given at the Utah state penitentiary peni-tentiary on Arbor day. Rev. Father Galligan of Park City was a visitor on Thursday. Mrs. Henry Walsh is visiting Mr. and Mrs. James I vers, y Rev. Father Cushnahan .was a Salt Lake visitor the other day. A very pleasant surprise party was given Mr. P. Marron on his birthday. Wednesday evening, April 2, : at his residence, 434 B street. All had a most enjoyable time. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Souers, Mr. and Mf. (.'lift. Mr. and Mrs. Monter. Mr. aid Mrs. T. F. Marnane, Mrs. Dillon. Mr. j and Mrs. W. White: Misses Duguet, Crofton. Marron, Souers; Messrs. Mar- I nane, Duguet, Ellsworth, Taggard. Meagher, Crofton, Phelan and a few other friends. Cards were indulged in . the fore part of the evening and dancing danc-ing the latter part. All left with many happy remembrances. |
