Seven hundred I Democrats attended the Jefferson day 4 bunauet of the Democratic club of New I York at the Waldorf-Astoria tonight. I Many were there of national reputation. I and 'chief among these was former Judge i Alton B. Parker, Democratic nominee for I president last November. In the banquet room portraits of Jeffer- I fon were conspicuous. In addition to Mr. , Parker the speakers were United State Senator New-lands of Nevada. Mayor Mc- f Clellan of New York City. Congressman J Kainey of Illinois, and J. J. Villet of I Alabama. Senator Carmack of Tennessee I was the only one of those expected to I speak who could not attend. i j Mr. Parker was the first speaker and he I w as enthusiastically received. Frequently I he was interrupted, by applause. I The speech was on the future of the , I Democratic party and was replete with suggestions for harmony and urgent ap- peals against sectionalism. |
