Show Miss1 Stone Reported Alive and Well. Sofia, Bulgaria. Nov. 6. The brigands having Miss Ellen M. Stone, the American Am-erican missionary, and her companion, Mme. Tsilka, in their custody we're in Bulgarian territory near the Turkish frontier last week, according to authoritative au-thoritative intelligence. The captives were lodged in caves and fires were lighted to protect them from the severe se-vere cold. Since then the brigands and the women have gone to some place unknown. - , The fact that violent measures, such as mutilation, to extort ransom were not taken, indicates that the brigands are under the impression that the longer they wait the better will be the terms obtainable. This attitude is regarded re-garded as being partly due to thi publicity pub-licity given to the subscriptions toward the ransom, and it is increasing the difficulty experienced by Consul General Gen-eral Dickinson in his efforts to reduce the brigand's demands. |
