Show HONORED BY THE POPE. His Holiness Selects the "Weber Piano for His Personal Use. Catholics in this country will be interested- in a. special mark of distinction distinc-tion just granted by the pope to an American firm of manufacturers. The Weber Piano company, whose factory and main warerooms are located in New York, has Just received a warrant announcing that his holiness has off!-' cially selected the Weber as the instrument instru-ment for his personal use and in the apostolic palaces. The document specifically spe-cifically states that the Weber company com-pany shall have "authority to use in the shield of the manufacturers the arms of 'his holiness,' " a most unusual honor. The pope's encyclical letters on church music and particularly the Gregorian chant have attracted widespread wide-spread attention. It is not so generally general-ly known that besides being a profound pro-found student of music he is also an accomplished pianist. His favorite recreation rec-reation is the playing of duets on the piano with Perosi, the well known composer of oratorios and church music mu-sic and chantmaster at the Vatican. His holiness is, therefore, a good judge of musical quality', and in giving the Weber preference over all the great pianos of Europe he has conferred an honor of the highest importance not only upon the manufacturers of the instrument but upon Americans geti-I geti-I erally. The appointment by Pius X is specially spe-cially notable, following so closely as it does the roval appointment by Alfonso XIII of Spain also to the Weber piano. It is evident that this instrument, for fifty years an art standard in the United States, has a brilliant career ahead of it abroad, even in the very j centers of music and art. New York "World. |
