Show CATHOLIC CONVENTIONS. The thirtieth' annual convention of the Catholic Young Men's National union was ooHed with solemn high mass at St.. Joseph's cathedral, Buffalo, Buf-falo, on Tuesday. He explained that the organization or-ganization is made up- of Catholic literary lit-erary and (social clubs. The object is io form a series of diocesan unions through which a spirit of friendly rivalry in literary and athleHic endeavor en-deavor may be infused into the various vari-ous clubs. "Perhaps an idea of our work may be easiest and most simply conveyed by saying that it in general reisembles closely the work of the Young Men's Christian Association," said Father Bogan. - , "Our object is to find a proper and helpful outlet for the activities of young men. The main feature of the diocesan unions is the debating contests con-tests between various clubs forming the union. Next vear's convention will be held in Wilkesbarre, Pa. - i Th supreme council of the Catholic Knights of America met last weak m St. Louis. It was an important session. ses-sion. New insurance rates were adopted, to go into effect Nov. 1. The ouestion of the admission of liquor dealers to the organization was discussed dis-cussed at some length and it was finally fin-ally decided to admit them with the proviso that in every case all such members should be placed in the extra ex-tra hazardous" class. Mr. Anthony Matre of Cincinnati, national secretary of the Catholic Federation, was appointed supreme secretary of the . organization. He was principal of St. Fhilomena's school. Cincinnati., but will resign that - position and -tate up his residence resi-dence in St. Louis, to assume his nw duties. He will retain the secretaryship secretary-ship of the federation. |
