Show SPAIN'S OUTLOOK "The loss of her colonies by reason of the war with, the United States, so far from being a disaster to Spain, was, I think, more in the nature of a blessing," remarked Captain Carlos L. Lanela, aide-de-camp -to the governor of Seville, in conversation with a Post reporter at the Arlington. "There is a better condition existing today throughout the kingdym than iu the old colonial regime. The war aroused the people to the necessity of developing the resources of the .mother country. Industrially Spain is going forward by leaps and bounds. Barcelona Barce-lona and Bilboa are great manufacturing manufactur-ing centers, and in them one will see as much of the hustling spirit that makes for business activity as in any Yankee community. In this connection connec-tion I wish to refute the common idea prevailing in America that the Spaniards Span-iards are a lazy and shiftless race. Nothing could be "more at variance with their true character. The great bulk of my countrymen are intensely industrious; they work as vigorously and during much longer hours than in nearly any other civilized country, and for extremely moderate wages. Another An-other erroneous notion that is widely cherished regarding them is that they are a polite- but insincere people. The falsity of this is evident to any student stu-dent of Spanish history. It has been our fate for centuries to be almost al- wr.ys involved in wars.
