Show Knights of Columbus. At the last meeting of Salt Lake council No. G02, Knights of Columbus, held Tuesday evening, May 7, two motions mo-tions were passed by unanimous consent con-sent of the members, which will redound re-dound to the great glory of the organization organ-ization for many years to come. The knights by their action have placed themselves on record as imbued with a true Catholic spirit, and as endowed with the best qualities of a fraternal organization. It moieover is noteworthy note-worthy of this action for the fact that it was almost spontaneous and Avas carried through without a dissenting voice. The first motion presented called for nn appropriation by private subscription subscrip-tion for an important work in the f n-ishing n-ishing touches on the cathedral. The knights will assume the expense of putting down the floor in the new cathedral. ca-thedral. A committee was appointed to convey the good news to the bishop, who received the members most cordially, cor-dially, and thanked them most heartily for their generous offer. The committee commit-tee in carrying out their instructions expressed to Bishop Scanlan the high esteem in which he was held by all members of the order, and assured him that it was in recognition of the work he had don? for the Catholics of the west that they had volunteered to help him in this, one of the great proofs of his labor, the building of this beautiful house of worship in their midst. The estimated cost of this work is $1,000. Any surplus in the subscription will also be turned over to the bishop to be applied to any purpose he may desire. The second motion carried had reference ref-erence to the maintaining of a room in the Holy Cross hospital for the benefit of sick members of the council. Ap propriation was liberally made for this purpose also. Dr. Hughes and Edward Ed-ward McGurrin were appointed to make arrangements with the hospital. W. J. Halloran. chairman of the cathedral committee, royally entertained enter-tained the other members at the A!ta club on Monday and Wednesday. The last meeting of the council was i large one. Another project of great importance im-portance was taken up and will be acted upon at a later date. The entertainment committee of the council is preparing to give visiting members a gala time on May 26, the day set for the initiation of the third degree. |
