Hannah was born on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, June 31, 1905, at Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, being 4 years old when the silent messenger of death summoned her to heaven. The remains were taken to St. Mary's cathedral, where Rev. T. Brennan paid the last tribute of respect to her departed soul. The childrens' choir sang appropriate hymns. At the grave Rev. W. K. Ryan officiated. The parents, Mr. Charles Carroll and Mrs. Elizabeth Carroll, who reside at 50 South Second East, have the sympathy, of their numerous friends. The following simple verse is a 'tribute to her memory: Her voice is now silent, her heart is now cold, The smile and the welcome that met us of old. We miss her and mourn her in silence unseen, And dwell on. the memory of days that have been. Rt. Rev. Thomas A. Hendrick, bishop of Cebu, Philippine islands, died at Manila Ma-nila last month. He was born in Penn Yan, N. Y., 1849, and was one of sixteen children born to Thomas and Catherine Hendrick. As bishop he has labored in the Philippine islands since 1904. St. Mary's Academy Notes. That Alma Mater is honored in the honor conferred upon her graduates was the idea prevalent at St. Mary's on" Saturday Sat-urday last, when the classes of 1910-11 were entertained at a delightful party given in their honor by Mrs. Lorraine Hyde-Tyng, a former cherished pupil of the academy. Nothing was left undone to make the affair one of the most enjoyable en-joyable of the season. In the song contest con-test included in the program, Miss Rhea Whatley was the prize winner. The second academic class engaged in a spirited contest in modern history during the past week. The teams were captained, respectively, by the Misses Josephine Cunningham and Laura Ellis. The contest covered the period of western west-ern Europe from the ninth to the twelfth century. The answers on both sides evidenced evi-denced a comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter; but the team captained cap-tained by Miss Cunningham finally won the victory. j To prove that the declaration, "The typewriter and the post card have made, letter writing a lost art," does not hold true at St. Mary's, the second academics acad-emics have sent to the first academics a challenge to a contest in letter writing, writ-ing, to take place December 17. The challenge has been accepted in senatorial sena-torial form by the officers of the first academic class. The fourth preparatory, class is jubilant jubi-lant over the acquisition of a choice class library. The same has been enriched en-riched by a complete set of the works of Maurice F. Egan. Mrs. Sadlier, Marion Ma-rion Ames Taggart and that most charming of juvenile story writers, Father Fa-ther Finn, S. J. In their recent election.of class president, presi-dent, Miss Dollie Dunham received the plurality of votes. St. Mary's Academy Roll of Honor. Misses L. Broyles, A. Heckart, M. Hughes, M.
